Something seems off with Heupel

My wife was saying she think he seems very disassociated earlier today and it made me think of your post. Football aside I would be really bummed if he was going through some kind of depression or something like that. Idk him personally so I wont assume, but she mentioned how sad he seemed during all the press conferences throughout the year.
PS I have noticed that too

I don't care about his weight or eating habits and I criticize most who complain about it, but as someone who gained a bunch of weight (my highest was 265 and I'm now 180) I know it was because of unnoticed depression. Not implying it is the same for him, but my weight was a big factor in that.

Here's a link to Josh Heupel at a presser at UCF.

Meh, a little older but not svelte and with the same stubble. He is what he was, I think.

I don't know of a cough suppressant gum, though I could see a lozenge (Hall's) being used but some wannabe doc was in here yesterday, maybe they can provide some quack.... er quick insight.
Some folks get a dry throat when talking for a period of time. I'm one of those as well. Gum helps keep things moist by stimulating salivary flow. Water also helps keep the throat moist. Doesn't necessarily require a "cough suppressant'.

When he was hired, I went somewhere and found a presser with him. He was in a gray sweat, scruffy and pretty heavy. At the time, I was kinda taken aback and think I used the term "slob". I know I'm not always clean shaven and dressed well, but at the time, it just came across to me as someone who wasn't very disciplined.

I usually skip the press conferences because they’re boring. He did act very weird in this one though
Despite what you’re reading here is he likely upset. He seems like he thinks internally a lot so he might be thinking and contemplating a lot given the season, how close we were to beating GA, and what he could have done better. I don’t think he likes to lose. I think it very much upsets him internally.

Probably realizing that with this pea shooter offensive and defensive staff, he is in deep water, way in over his head, in the SEC, as currently configured and completely unregulated from an NIL and transfer portal perspective, his looting of the NIL exchange coffers for his experiment with a 6-9 volleyball player at quarterback has blown up in his face, his defensive coordinator is completely incompetent and he needs to burn the defensive staff to the ground, perhaps retaining Garner, but perhaps moving him to offense and simply turn it over to a proven defensive mind, which Heupel is not and also securing a top shelf offensive coordinator, turning the play calling over to him, rather than Heupel demonstrating his own incompetence in that space, get the NicoBoo cancers out of the locker room, hire a general manager to manage the talent and the pseudo NIL pay for performance cash balances and see if that doesn't work any better. Otherwise, there is an opening at South Florida University and at Tulane University that might be better suited to his head coaching skillset.

Post retirement, I'm often mistaken for a vagrant and followed around the grocery store so I won't steal something.

Pre retirement, folks thought I knew stuff and I had letters after my name and all that so I had to dress the part.

It's better knowing nothing than knowing something or at least more comfortable for me.

I can understand Heupel's "I'd rather be in the facility doing my coaching job" look but it's the TV era and times have changed from Johnny Majors doing his show with snoot full.

For work I'm in the grow a beard or don't grow a beard but don't show up with Monday morning hungover frat boy stubble if you're the face of the organization. See: Danny White. He gets it.

I'm not sure how disciplined Coach Heupel is but his team has shown issues with undisciplined penalties and mental errors concerning their assignments and a seeming lack of focus on preparation (if Joey A can be believed.)

That may be a top down problem.

Lol and Vandy actually dropped a spot. I think that insults me even more.
I figured Texas would jump Vandy after beating A&M. Miami is the team that jumped them.

Plus they aligned with the CFP from last week that had Miami over Vandy - I think that is what happened.

Heupel is not media-friendly at all. I think it's pretty well known that he hated doing both Vol Calls and his Sunday studio show. Whether it was his decision or strictly Mike Keith's, both have been canceled.

I think you're seeing the same thing that's always been there .... but giving it more scrutiny because of how awful the defense was.

First of all, JH looks like a slob on the sideline but if he can win games that does not matter. Only problem is we are getting worse by the year. We have the youngest roster in the SEC. 59% are freshman
and Vandy had 26 grad students on the field. Men vs teenagers! Bad planning by JH? I wish someone had an answer. Maybe Danny White can come up with one.

I think our whole strategy is off in regards to roster building. We spend so much money on freshmen who don't even see the field. So you're tying up a lot of your budget with non-contributors. An example would be Nico, who we paid to sit for a year. That money could have gone to developing your roster in other areas. There are other examples. I think we should take that money and invest it in proven commodities, like a Vanderbilt has done.
