Something’s wrong with this team volume 2.

Something definitely wrong with this team after forfeiting a 17 point lead and have a Kentucky fan say to you “Yeah, we are finding our groove”! Pathetic .
No leaders. Barnes had ZZ on the floor for 4 years. He did not have to worry about things. He had Zakai Zeigler and Jahmai Mashack running things.

1. While they didn’t show it in the second half today, they are a good (not great) defensive team.

2. HUGE stats flaws - turnovers and free throws. UT had 12 turnovers today (they had 18 against Florida) and shot 69% in FTs overall. Even more atrocious is that their guards -
JG and Boswell had 8 FT attempts the latter part of the game and only made 3 - less than 50%. That’s inexcusable.

3. JG is a mediocre defender at best and he is not a true PG. He is turnover prone late in games - part of that is he is really a 2 guard, and part of it is exhaustion. He plays a lot of minutes . . . Because we have no one else.

4. UT is some better offensively and rebounds well . . . But neither element is enough to overcome the clown show in FT shooting and turnovers.

5. Overall, we are once again a shooter short. When is the last time you remember UT drilling shots like UK today?

This team will be fortunate to be 9-9 in conference . . . And finish 19-12.

I think 18-13 is more likely. I don’t think that gets UT into the tournament. JMO.

This team has two main issues. First, lack of shooting ability, which has become just as much a trademark of Rick Barnes’ Tennessee teams as solid defense. If there’s no Dalton Knecht, you can count on Tennessee being a below average outside shooting team. Second, the loss of the leadership, grit, and continuity of ZZ and JM. Having guys like that be the fabric of your program for 4-5 years is a thing of the past in CBB.

Gillespie has shot well. Did so yesterday

He’s the only one. You can’t have only one 3-pt shooter and expect to be successful in today’s game. I’d make every other dude on our team make two from behind the arc before I’d even guard them out there.

Boswell has shot even better from 3. He just doesn't shoot enough. Henderson shoots well too and Ament's outside shot has improved. Outside shooting isn't the problem. It's turnovers. We had only 2 turnovers in the first 17 minutes yesterday. Outside shooter is the least of our concerns

Yesterdays loss really stings. Not only because it was to UK, but knowing the next 2 are at Bama and Georgia.

This fanbase is going to lose their 💩 with a 3 game losing streak.

Based on how we collapsed at Arky and FL, it's hard seeing a road win, especially against quality opponents.

Those guys may shoot a decent percentage, but they don’t shoot them often, and the opponent isn’t worried about them taking them. Gillespie’s the only one you have to fully commit to guarding behind the 3-pt line.

Turnovers are certainly a problem. As is the defense that’s not what it has been. The defense being elite has compensated for a lot of offensive deficiencies over the last 6-7 years.

This. Hard to have any confidence going into these road games...only bright spot has been Ament's play of late - hopefully he's turned the corner and some other players can step up. And I'm sure these players are feeling the pressure which doesn't bode well given what seems to be a lack of mental toughness.

It's a waste of time getting the ball low to Carey. His point blank shooting percentage is lower than his free throw percentage. He should enter the game to rest a big and for rebounding and screening for the guards, told not to shoot even if alone under the basket.
At this stage in his game we need to be running plays for Ament to catch and shoot instead of letting him create his shot. His shot percentage is too low after creation.
They should be using Estrella more to draw the double and kick to the guards for better 3 point shots. This was supposed to be an inside out team. Estrella is shooting more than passing when he catches it low. He needs to relax and scan the floor after the catch instead of panicking.
We need to get Evans and Henderson more playing time. Our major goals are out of reach so we need to get a tournament bid and be ready to play in March.
