I just don't see it.

Blowout losses to Vanderbilt and Alabama. 3 in a row for Bama.

Bad secondary play. We lose our best cover guy.

Bad O line play, they all return this year.

Lose both top DE's that accounted for 19 sacks.

Lose best Wideout.

Freshman QB.

This all points to a down year, even more so than 2016.

If your referring to Sutton as our best cover guy. I understand. But i saw him get beat so many times last year i lost confidence in him.

1) Better Strength and conditioning program will reduce injuries

2) Better LOS play with both OL and DL due to more strength at point of attack

3) 121 will be a hungry team with no expectations while 120 wasn't (too much drama, egos, etc)

4) some young explosive kids develop at WR, DE, DB

*New DB coach

*Most experienced oline we've had in a while along with a new S/C coach

* Still have monsters upfront baring injury ( K-Mac, Shy, Kongbo, Phillips) Hoke will completely change the attitude of our dline

* Jennings was our best last year and still is.. Malone could just go and get it ( better WR up for debate though I take Jennings all day)

* welp... yea a freshman qb (or QD).. I got nothing for this one.. hopefully JG can do somethings in our offense

All things you listed are certainly concerns. However, in hindsight, it looks like a lot of the issues last year were chemistry among players and coaches. Hopefully most of if not all of that is cleaned up now.....Hurd is long gone, Kongbo seems to be in line and Shoop has new D coaches to work with.

We return a lot of talented players, many with a lot of experience. Plenty of holes to be sure, but you never know who steps up and fills what we thought were voids.

I'm certainly not predicting any type of championship this year, no way to do that at this point. But I also don't think the sky is falling. If the intangibles fall into place this year, who knows.

If you like 8-4 football teams, you have alot of reason to be optimistic. Plus the possibility to win our 4th bowl game in a row and various other championships.

Better hope another wide out emerges. You cant have just one, the d will make him a non factor.

1 we hope
2 we hope
3 this could be a real, legit thing. Team 120's mindset was clearly not up to speed
4 we hope

I just don't see it.
In 1998, nobody saw it after all those losses and the exchange of an HoF QB for a newbie.

Blowout losses to Vanderbilt and Alabama. 3 in a row for Bama.
19-14 wudden a blowout in 15'. Vandy will be routed in 17'.

Bad secondary play. We lose our best cover guy.
Our entire Dbackfield get new improved coaching and another year of S&C and maturity. Our only loss was injured much of 16'.

Bad O line play, they all return this year.
Sans injuries, and more S&C, and more unity makes this one of the team strengths in 17'.

Lose both top DE's that accounted for 19 sacks.
Replaced with good, more matured, and experience players. We'll be plenty good at that position.

Lose best Wideout.
Four FR get Sophomore bump, and solid quality of others make this a strong group from WRU.

Freshman QB.
Seasoned Junior QB, at worst, with similar reps as our last NC winner at position.

This all points to a down year, even more so than 2016.
All this, plus a strong running game, major coaching upgrades, HUNGER and ANGER, experience at LB, strong depth at DT, and even better S/T has this looking like Title Run season my friend!

:) Hope that helps.

Can some explain how any logic person would conclude that we are in a similair situation as the 98 team was?

We have not even gone through spring practice yet. We have a new staff and some position coaching changes.

Vegas has not even released their odds yet.

Freshman starting QB --- Not sure. What about Dormandy and Jones.

You desire some assurance that no one can provide on this site and the ones that can are not going to at this point and time.

Surprisingly, we should be better than we were last year. There is .50 cents worth.

I don't understand the gloom and doom about Team 121, other than a bad Head Coach.

This team is LOADED with Jr's and Sr's.

I'm too lazy to do the research, but this may be the most upper-classman-heavy team we have had since before the Butch Jones era.

OK I will try. Losing to Bama is gonna be the norm as long as Saban is at BAMA I am afraid. CBJ missed his best shot in 2015. This staff needs to take recruiting & coaching to a new level if we want to hang with them.Losing to Vandy was inexcusable and we will have our revenge. Secondary will be improved because coach Martinez is Gone (btw he should have never been hired). Hopefully the new secondary coach can get more out of our players than WM did. The o line returns a lot of players who have played many games. They are not on par with the best o-lines in UT history but they put up quite a few points last year and JK will be running behind them. DE? Yeah expect a drop off. Good news is we have some big athletic guys to rotate at that position. WR? Yes losing Malone hurts but Jennings will be the main target and is a proven play maker. Byrd has also shown he can make plays. Ethan Wolfe is a solid option. Callaway and Johnson will need to contribute ASAP. QB? I like that two highly touted guys will be battling for the position. Hope this helps, GO VOLS.

Aren't these Jrs and Srs from the back to back top 10 recruiting classes as well?

I love Jauan Jennings, and he may be the most athletic player on our roster, but Malone was the best wide out by a long shot. Always consistent, and ran crisp routes. He will be harder to replace than you think.
