Some sobering stats for you

Hey, based on the logic on here, how about we give back the 1998 Natty? Any takers on that?

Because we should not have beaten Syracuse. We def should not have beaten Arky.

Good Lord. Every season and every team has these games. Have we had more than our share this year? Yep. But we won, right? Was it a sign we were overhyped? Maybe.

But if we go 10-3, and I know that is a big if, I call that a good season. Throw in FL and UGA and it's certainly good.

You guys need to take of the jammies, get the panties out of your behinds, and shower up.

but we want a championship not a 9-3 season

OK. And you can't just enjoy the improvement along the way en route to getting there? If we finish 10-3 this year are you really going to act bitter and not realize how far we've come since the years of 5-7 and sitting at home on New Years? Think about that. In a year where we finish 10-3 and beat both Florida and Georgia, you're going to just dismiss that and not realize that was a good year?

And we lost to SC by 3 on the road playing the worst I have ever seen a team play. Excuse? No. Observation in fact? I think so.

You guys ever laid an egg at work? In fact, do any of you guys do anything at work that requires some degree of open scrutiny? Love to know....

We had 2 weeks to prepare and put hot garbage on the field.

We were 'in all likelihood' going to finish 10-2 until last night's CRAP. Don't fool yourself. There's a damn good chance we do not win out.

I'll tell you what. UK and possibly even Vandy are going to be smelling blood in the water with us. In all likelihood we drop one of those now IMO.

Penn state is a FAR better team than Carolina and the Vols have played like crap against every single bad opponent they've faced this year.

Maybe. But Penn State lost to Michigan in the exact score we lost to Bama.

The lost to Temple by 7. Got beat by unranked Pitt who lost to Va Tech who we thumped. Beat lowly Minnesota by 3.

Your point? Oh, that's right, they beat OSU (who barely beat NW at home yesterday).

Round in round we go ..............

And Ohio State lost to an unranked Penn State team. Unexpected losses are GOING to happen sometimes. Yet when it does everyone is so quick to pull out their torches and pitchforks. Jesus people, it's ONE game!

No, actually it's one loss against a sh*t stain team. UT hasn't played well for 4 quarters in ANY game this year. That's the problem. They look as ill prepared in game 8 as they did in game 1. There is no improvement.

So Car was dead last in scoring in the FBS yet you're in here defending that loss. That's comical.

You defending this loss is f'n comical. That loss was inexcusable. The East is complete sh*t and Butch still needs Fla to lose 2 games to back door his way into the SECCG when UT was the prohibitive favorite this year.

He lost to a horrible So Car team and Will Muschamp yet again. Keep defending that sh*t show. I'm sure Butch would love to have you in his contract negotiations. I have a feeling he's going to need more than bullsh*t to get a raise next time though.

It happens sometimes. Are we going to fire every coach when they lose a tough game like this?

The "Saban Effect" has ruined the enjoyment of college football for so many programs. It's such an all or nothing proposition with fans. They think if we're not dominating everybody then the current coach is not the right guy and he should be fired. Get some perspective people!

And Fulmer lost to freaking Memphis State with an elite Peyton Manning-led Tennessee team. Then he won a national championship the very next year. You guys are acting like spoiled petulant children.

Uh, no. No one expects UT to win like Saban does. However, UT fans do expect some sort of disciplined play and a decent gameplan over an outmatched opponent.

UT played hard, (but not that inspired), UT had way more talent than So Car so what was the reason for losing? Coaching and poor preparation. It's not that hard.

No, UT lost to Memphis St in '96. They won the title 2 years later.

And yes, that was probably Fulmer's worst loss as a head coach considering the talent discrepancy. I'm glad you at least recognize a sh*t show when you see one. That's progress.

And if you think UT will be playing for a national title in 2 years I'll have what you're smoking. Butch will never win a national title at UT. Save this post for future reference. I'd love to be wrong, but I won't be.

Think about this, potentially 10-3 with wins against Florida and Georgia. That's all the record books will show. No one remembers HOW the wins came. No one remembers how many penalties. All anyone remembers is the record.

The Memphis State game is the definition of a "bad game." We went 10-2 that year and 7-1 in the SEC. This year's team puts garbage on the field every game. We haven't had a complete game all year. I love the "in all likelihood we'll go 9-3" comments I keep seeing. Perhaps you guys are watching another team. I see a team that could just as easily go 7-5 or 6-6.

I can't believe you are comparing Butch to Urban. FWIW, weren't we supposed to be a playoff team, and wasn't OSU supposed to be a 8-9 win team this year?

No, they have far more talent and have a better head coach. Penn state would beat this Vols team by double digits if they played like they did last night.

No, I'm not comparing the coaches. I'm simply saying EVERY coach is going to lose games that they weren't supposed to lose.

That florIda win will be what saves Butch's ass if he loses any of the remaining games on the schedule. That UGA win doesn't look good at all seeing as UGA looks like hot garbage.

Unless Fla drops 2 games and UT wins out, I think a number of UT fans will be reminded numerous times that they lost to a horrible So Car team and that kept them out of the SECCG.

The goal for this team all year was to win the East. Considering the level of competition, that wasn't an unrealistic goal. UGA was breaking in a new QB and coach. Fla was breaking in a new QB. The East was ours. After 4 years, our talent level was finally to the level of competing for the division. Then we laid a turd in the punch bowl last night. If Butch wanted the haters and naysayers off his back, he can't lose a game like he did last night.

Muschamp Knows how to play D against Butches pet Offense which no one knows what it is really. If every team in the nation did the exact same thing the Vols would not win a game. Butch sticks with players and schemes no mater the outcome just like spoiled brat that says my way my way. I want a coach that does what ever it takes to win. Change a player or change schemes to match your players . Stop smashing the round peg in that daum square hole .

And yet we are in all likelihood going to finish 9-3, something we haven't done since 2006. And if we win our bowl game, we will have won 10 games, something we haven't done since 2007. All while running a relatively clean program with few behavior issues and posting the highest team GPA's in program history. Get a grip people. I know everyone is feeling butt hurt today but Butch isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Does he need to make staff changes after this year? Yes, and I believe he will because he's shown that he wouldnt hesitate to do it in the past. But don't think for one second that loss yesterday has suddenly altered Jone's future here. It takes way more than that.

Going 9-3 this year is not a given, seeing how we performed last night. We could easily lose two games.
