Soft culture never more evident

I get it. But. I think Pruitt has shown that he is willing to put the best guy they feel will give us the best chance to win. Take the secondary for example. Starting 3 true FR instead of upperclassmen. Shuffling the OL around to find the best unit. Same with other positions. Dont you think that if Chryst was playing better day in and day out, that they would play him?

Now I guess we could have anothe Botch Jones on our hands. You know like a Dobbs/Worley type of situation. But that just doesnt seem likely.
Very possibly. Quite possibly. We don't see any practices.

Been busy today with film work, it seems like I may have found something important, I am thinking the O-line is not blocking well.

This is it. This must be expeditiously faxed to higher headquarters asap.:)

I just think it you bench JG, who has played well despite a crappy oline, you may ruin his confidence. Say what you want, but the kid plays with confidence (one of the few on our team) and despite a terrible oline he has stood and taken hits and still made huge pass completions all year long. I really don’t know what more you want from the guy. He hasn’t turned the ball over, only 2 ints all year long. He has been money on third down more times than not. I think people see the limited amount of playing time Chryst has against Bama and just jump to conclusions. Yes he played well, but from what I understand that’s an anomaly. By the sounds of it he’s woefully inconsistent in practice.

Touchdowns. Wins. Leadership. Mobility. Consistency...

That JG sure is tough, tho.

This is the difference between having smash mouth O-line and misdirection and gimmicks. If not for Dobbs ability to run what would have happened. We had the horses but never used them to our advantage, like against Okla. I had hopes for our last coach just because I like the Vols to win but not always liked what I saw. Stubborn is what we had, this is a premeditated culture shock and an attempt to see who wants to play hard on the hill and who don't and also a preview of what is expected. Don't be shocked when several on the team now move on after this season.

Its not just the OL that doesnt block - take a look at that flea flicker again - Banks just ignores and runs by the guy going in to pound JG

This. People on every thread on this board keep saying OL OL OL OL OL ...

It’s not just the OL. The entire offense is a chaotic mess. All of our pass protection, including RBs TEs and the QB himself is a mentally dysfunctional mess. We get penalties of al sorts from every position, every possession. We get no rhythm, no adjustments, and occasionally cant get a snap off.

Great post. Dobbs masked how bad the OL truly was. Another thing is everyone needs to stop comparing our QBs mobility to Dobbs. Dobbs had some rare mobility. Its completely unfair to assume that any QB with mobility should be like Dobbs.

Hmmm, so is the QB the only one responsible for all those things you mentioned?

Also, your constant mockery of JGs toughness is really petty.

Didn’t say he's the only one. But he's a big part of it. I answered the question. And I’m not mocking JG. I see how it might appear that way. I’m mocking posters, announcers yesterday, writers, and everyone else who harp on his toughness and claim that his toughness means he’s above analysis.

Question, why do the coaches, broadcasters, fans and sports analysts all say the exact same thing about our OL?

My question after yesterday is this: if this line isn't suited for a power run game, why do we insist on trying to force it on them?
because u cant just be one-dimensional in the sec so we have to try to run!

exactly.....but to some....nothing everyone with common football knowledge means anything. some would rather find a way to blame one guy....and its because of things he cant control.

We are unlikely to find a qb with Dobb’s mobility. They are hard to come by. We do, however, desperately need a qb right now with at least a tiny hint of potential mobility. Our current qb has none, and it limits what we can do with opposing defenses.

When we held the ball and Charlotte defended, yesterday was a stalemate at best in terms of strength and size with a middling cusa team. We had a measly 10 1st downs to their 13 and net run yardage of 20 something yds. They stuffed our run game like they were Alabama's front line.

The soft culture of linemen recruited for spread finesse is a poor fit in CJP's new offense. Everybody knew that changing the culture of softness was bound to be Pruitt's biggest challenge and not yet a year into his tenure, it remains and looms as the biggest going forward.

We armchair coaches speculate on the need to win 2 of the next 3 to get bowl eligible, but I'm not sure the team itself puts a high priority on doing that. For some of them, playing these final 3 out and getting to the offseason and the holiday break may be their preference. From where the sun now sits, I don't see them sniffing a bowl and winning one of the last 3 is more probable.

Therein lies this prevailing culture of softness CJP walked into. It was always going to be tough. The progress to this point seems agonizingly slow. Want to shake things up and possibly generate some excitement heading down the stretch? Try the QB who actually was groomed to play in a pro set offense. The Cats and Mizzou are no doubt going to pin their ears back and pressure Guantanamo, cram us into a short field like Charlotte did so well but with better personnel. Show some flexibility, Pruitt. Don't be stubborn to the point of limiting your options. If Chryst isn't effective and self destructs, you can always return to your #1 QB anytime during the game. What's there to lose? I doubt most of us and certainly not the oddsmakers expect us to win anyway.
Charlotte was a scrimmage game, who cares if it was close or how we looked. How did Auburn look vs upstart Texas A&M? Why don't you remind us how we looked at Auburn? How does playing Chryst possibly help CJPs future? Shrout plays if a backup QB gets in. JG is the present and future, time to move on.

That question is irrelevant, since we are in agreement that our OL is performing terribly. I don’t think you read what i wrote. Our protection problems include the OL, but also are deeper than ONLY the OL.

He is a part of it. How big is muddy. Now if we had a average OL, RBs, WRs and TEs that knew how to do their jobs it would be more valid to say JG is more at fault. He definitely isnt a great QB. But given what he has to work with he has done a good job. He is not beyond criticism or analysis, but everything needs to be taken into consideration.

Like he is under his third HC, third OC, first QB coach and a brand new system. He has had some bad throws this year. He has also had quite a few drops that would make the numbers much better. The point is at least be fair and take every factor in when analyzing JG.

And he just got demoted to scout team, so we don’t have hope right now that regard. Will have to solve this one through recruiting.
one way or another. better line play would be the best solution because then we could run the ball

JG actually has shown some mobility. But I believe he just for some reason doesnt move very much.

No, he hasn’t. Once in a blue moon scrambling for a yard or two doesn’t count as having mobility at the QB position. Take a look at his career game log. While a lot of us operate under the delusion that he’s mobile, at lest a little, he’s actually a career negative rusher.
