So who COULD we get if not Heupel?

Fans who do not understand the landscape of college football or where Tennessee sits would never understand your question.

Truth is, Heupel has been coaching at a level above the talent we have had since he has been here. Tennessee was hit with recruiting violations and is just now hitting theor stride in recruiting. As we have seen with the defense this year, while there is talent, we are thin. We are stacking the talent.

But at Tennessee, even with NIL, we are a tier behind the upper echelon of college football. Tennessee doesn't have the recruiting hotbed that other states have access to.
Nobody liked this but this is one of the better comments of the day. Solid and level headed. Couldn’t agree more sir.

This may be the dumbest question on this board and I see it daily. Was JH a sure fire upgrade? We had no idea and we hired him. You don’t get any guarantees when hiring. You decide you want better, you make a move, and it works or it doesn’t.
That's not how this works. You go down a 10 year span of mediocrity thinking like you. I'm glad you aren't the AD. Lol

CJH need ms to hit the portal hard this off season and the coaching trail to find better assistants. He also needs a QB coach year 5 and the development of theQBs he has recruited from HS hasn’t worked yet(Not all his fault)

Oh yes I’m sure you are a coach hiring messiah. I bet you were on the moon when we hired a coach from the “saban tree” because it was a “guarantee”. You don’t get any guarantees period. The AD hires someone who has won some games and puts on a few good talking points in interviews. Then it works or it doesn’t.
My experience as a vol fan is that it doesn't more often than does work. I would rather be sure of 8-4 ,than a good shot at 4-8.
This is still a team that can be fun to watch. Losing sux, but I'm still all orange.

Bro that is a super old narrative. Georgia and Alabama have been all over the state of Tennessee getting players the past 10 years. As have Tennessee. We're not Georgia but we're better than Oklahoma, Mississippi, South Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, and even OHIO.

Just look at the In-State recruiting rankings or the kids doing all the scoring in The 3rd Saturday of October this season.

There's plenty of talent in Tennessee. It's been that way for 15 years now. You are super late

Yes they are located in Tennessee. But the talent influx has been from other states. Their parents are fans and even graduates of other programs. It’s getting better once we’ve had some success and our program is on the local news every night. Next year we have commits from 7 of the top 11 in the state. We haven’t come anywhere near that for years.

As am I. But I would rather chase greatness than cower in the corner and be afraid of “what if” we look for the next guy.

Wanting better without a plan sounds like a bad idea. Firing a coach who made the playoffs last season feels like a bad idea. Being short sighted and not focusing on stability and the future sounds like a bad idea.

Nothing is certain but we can mediate the risks by making sound/non emotional decisions.

We just lost. Look at everyone on this forum. Over emotional nonsense is running wild.

Ask yourself which side are you on currently?
If you think this is about 1 loss then you’ve not been paying attention.

There really isn’t a sure fire one these days . A really good HC can just not work in a new place. I do think Kiffin would kill it here, though.

Heupel is close to Kiffin in offensive gameplan. I wish Heupel would just fully embrace the portal like Kiffin does.

Zero reason 2/3 of our team are underclassment

Same posters who say fire Heupel for 3 losses are the same ones who would tell everyone to give the new coach time to rebuild after winning 6 games in their first 2 years after 3/4 of the team transfers out and recruiting crumbles

Heupel would have to have back to back 6-6 type years for me to even start to turn on him. lol I know what kind of pain you can end up in firing a coach and making just one hire that backfires. It can become a chain of bad hires quickly

Definitely agree here. I actually think it would required a calamity of errors for Heupel to ever be a 7-5 coach again.

But the lack of any clarity on the QB position for the foreseeable future is very concerning and I think a big part that will define how far Heupel takes us.

Outside of Nico, this is the first time Heupel is going to have a firm QB position that could be the same guy here playing for 2-3+ years.

after sleeping on it. And after sleeping on it after the UGA game, it still sucks that we should have won both games and be sitting here with one loss and a closer game to Bama vs what the score showed,

Nevertheless, I don’t want JH canned.

For those who do, who are you going to realistically hire?

I would not be surprised if Auburn cans Freeze this week. If so, you will have LSU, UF, Auburn open. Add in Arkansas and possibly UK, along with Va Tech. Will Dabo be out as well? Seems like he is begging to be fired.

Do you seriously think that we could hire someone better than JH with all the openings? If so, who?

Are we more attractive than LSU, UF and Auburn currently? All three have won nattys and SEC championships since we last did so some 27 years ago.

To my knowledge, there is not a Phil Fulmer or Johnny Majors waiting in the wings to come home.

We would be foolish to enter this current marketplace of job openings.

My biggest fear in this year’s coaching cycle is that a lot of coaches are gonna stay put and get rewarded for it. My hope is that Heupel doesn’t get his contract modified at all. I hope we don’t give him an extension or increase in pay or increase in buyout. He’s done nothing to warrant a firing but done nothing to warrant “incentives”

Lane Kiffin would take our job over those other jobs. He has talked more than once about his love for the job he left. Plenty of great coaches out there. If DW is such a great AD he should be able to find a great coach. Heck for enough money you could convince an Urban Meyer or one of those guys to coach again.

In a perfect world, Heupel would leave owing us $8m and and we hire Lincoln Riley for and we owe USC $10m.

Who am i kidding. In a perfect world, Lane is here 😂😂😂😂 but he ain’t leaving Ole Miss this year.
