So who COULD we get if not Heupel?

Fans who do not understand the landscape of college football or where Tennessee sits would never understand your question.

Truth is, Heupel has been coaching at a level above the talent we have had since he has been here. Tennessee was hit with recruiting violations and is just now hitting theor stride in recruiting. As we have seen with the defense this year, while there is talent, we are thin. We are stacking the talent.

But at Tennessee, even with NIL, we are a tier behind the upper echelon of college football. Tennessee doesn't have the recruiting hotbed that other states have access to.

I don't want to fire Heupel right now but I do want better coordinators, especially defense. The SEC is rough and we either attempt to get better or we'll get worse. There is no standing still. We also need to be more aggressive in the portal.

Do I think Heupel can win an SEC championship? Odds are not in his favor but he needs to evolve and be more demanding of both coaches, players and himself.

Totally agree, but he‘s not going to clean house.

Well let’s see. 1. Ball bounced off guys face mask critical play of game.2. Missed field goals.3. O line allowed sacked fumble. 4. He doesn’t play any longer.5. Why fault him?

This may be the dumbest question on this board and I see it daily. Was JH a sure fire upgrade? We had no idea and we hired him. You don’t get any guarantees when hiring. You decide you want better, you make a move, and it works or it doesn’t.
Wanting better without a plan sounds like a bad idea. Firing a coach who made the playoffs last season feels like a bad idea. Being short sighted and not focusing on stability and the future sounds like a bad idea.

Nothing is certain but we can mediate the risks by making sound/non emotional decisions.

We just lost. Look at everyone on this forum. Over emotional nonsense is running wild.

Ask yourself which side are you on currently?

And who is a 100% sure fire upgrade?
Exactly. Remember when Bobby Petrino was considered a would be home run hire? Scott Frost? Hugh Freeze? Heck many people here wanted Billy Napier.

How are they looking now?

When you have a HC who sets the floor at 8 wins, the best thing to do is support him through thick and thin. History has shown that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Penn State going to find out the hard way.
