Purdue might be thinking that UT was not a good enough match for them. In some ways, they’ve been impressive. Hopefully we will win, but college football can be a big surprise at times,

Just saw an ESPN article from earlier that said their top DE and WR, who are both projected first rounders, have declared for the draft, but it is unclear whether or not they will play against us.

I have seen them play a couple times this season. This is a very solid team with a good offense. They were a couple plays away from being 10-2, if I recall, but then again... we were two plays away from being 9-3 so... hindsight is always 20/20.

Comparing schedules:

Purdue: 8-4
Purdue's opponents' records combined for 78 wins and 67 losses...
-They played four teams with 10 or more wins and won two of those games (Michigan State and Iowa)
-They played five teams with losing records (UConn, Illinois, Nebraska, Northewestern, and Indiana)

Tennessee: 7-5
Tennessee's opponents' records combined for 86 wins and 60 losses
-Also played four teams with 10 more wins, but didn't win any of them
-Played four teams with losing records (Bowling Green, Tenn. Tech, South Alabama, Vandy)

Admittedly I haven’t searched overly hard, but I have yet to find a good synopsis on Purdue this season.

I know they beat UM but looking at their record they don’t necessarily have a huge wow factor (I’m sure they’d say the same about us).

So for anyone who keeps up with them, what’s the skinny?

They didn't beat Mich but did beat Iowa and Michigan St both by Double Digits. By far their 2 best wins and they beat a decent Oregon St team.

This is going to be a tough win without Alontae.

Our LB's don't cover passes well and our secondary is avg.

Purdue 41
UT 38

Purdue put up 31 on Ohio State. Granted, they took almost a 60-burger, but even a down year Ohio State has a defense. They also didn't get boatraced by Michigan.

Look for razzle dazzle plays from both teams.

Take the Vols and take the over.

Just read an article about the game. Going to be a match up problem for Vol D. Purdue's strength is their passing game and Vol D's weakness is secondary. Just going to have out score them looks like.
If I'm watching film on our D, I'm gonna draw up a lot of running QB

Purdue's defense is disciplined. I expect it will be rare that the Vols pace catches them out of alignment. If it does happen, Tennessee must execute and take advantage. As cited in prior posts, I believe that Tennessee's receivers can get separation and win 50/50 balls. Hooker will have to see it and put the ball in receivers' hands. I believe Tennessee will be effective offensively and can outscore Purdue. GBO.

It looks like a tough game to me. They have a great coach who like one other poster said I wanted here instead of Pruitt. IMO It’s going to come down to if they can stop our run. They score in the 40’s on a good day.

Vegas has the Vols favored by 2.5.
Will be a pick'em by game time

They score under 30 ppg as a pass first O. They're dead last running the ball in the Big 10. One piece of good news is their QB doesn't seem to be much of a running threat.

Very difficult to say how they will match up to UT's O. They haven't played anyone who runs even close to as fast as UT does.

They're 5-0 against teams with a losing record and 3-4 against teams with a winning record. Their best win by far was Michigan State- 40-29.

UT scores .508 points per play. tOSU scores an NCAA best .612 points per play. They blew Purdue out. ND who beat them by 2 TD's scores .500 pts/play. Oregon State who Purdue beat 30-21 scored .470 pts/play. IMO, they will struggle a lot with UT's tempo. They're used to playing Big 10 pace. Their relative lack of depth with that in mind will hurt them.

OTOH, their O could be a challenge to UT. They have the right kinds of guys to chew a zone defense up if UT cannot get constant pressure on the QB.

I personally like Brohm a lot and wanted him to be UT's coach when Pruitt was hired.

In the end, I don't see them beating a healthy UT team. The game could easily get away from Purdue early if UT can get a couple of stops.

Of all the guys we missed on during the Currie fiasco, Brohm was the one I was most bummed about. He is a very good offensive coach.

I think it could depend on who opts out of the game. They have a couple of guys who will be fairly high draft picks, if they opt out I don't think they have much of a chance.
