So what’s the breakdown on Purdue

Saw a tweet saying that their projected 1st Round DE and their top WR, David Bell, are declaring for the Draft. So there's a decent chance neither play in the bowl game against us

The pic you posted shows the Vols by 2.5. The minus by our name means we are the favorite. The plus by theirs means they are the underdog.

I know. Somebody said Purdue was a 3 point favorite. And that’s probably where it opened, but it has quickly moved.

Q: For gameday, how to you find a Purdue extrovert?

A: An introverted Purdue grad stares at their own feet when they are talking to you. An extroverted Purdue grad looks at your feet when they’re talking to you.

Admittedly I haven’t searched overly hard, but I have yet to find a good synopsis on Purdue this season.

I know they beat UM but looking at their record they don’t necessarily have a huge wow factor (I’m sure they’d say the same about us).

So for anyone who keeps up with them, what’s the skinny?

This article breaks them down.

Purdue's best win by far was Mich St and that was a great matchup for them. MSU is the absolute worst pass defense team in the country:

That plays perfectly into Purdue's strengths as a passing first team.

Unfortunately we're no great shakes vs the pass either, coming in at 103rd in the country. This doesn't figure to get any better without Alontae Taylor. UT has nearly a month to coach up their pass defense

My fear is that they have to rely on zone even more. UT's zone D sucks. I'm not sure why they didn't stop using it. That said, zone D success is often a measure of how the athleticism of a D vs the opponent's receiving corps. I haven't looked that deep at Purdue's receivers.

The bad news is that Burrell has been very vulnerable in man. Teams have consistently picked on him. UT doesn't have a ton of depth at CB unless Hadden can make a big leap between now and game time.
The receiver for Purdue (Bell) is going to be a tough cover the kid is really really good. But we have Tillman so they will have their work cut out for them too. Game is going to be a shoot out.

I think the zone D should do OK allowing them to move the ball while holding them to FGs. If that happens, I like our chances.

And theyre in the weaker half of their conference.
no michigan or penn state on the schedule. that michigan state win is a big one though. an i guess they're putting a ton of stock in notre dame.

Alontae was not very good in man coverage either

I have some hope for Hadden, he seems to have a lot of upside. I really don't understand how he and Turnage didn't play more...

The fact that we have played the best QB's in the country already and Purdue's QB doesn't run makes me feel confident.

I mean we had Pickett, Corral and Young beat multiple times if not for their ability to run.

Teams threw away from him this year for the most part. Could be that he got better or that Burrell was just that vulnerable.

Me neither. Both played and made some plays. Time to step up big.

Me too. It opens up some opportunities for pass rush that a running QB burns. Purdue allows a few sacks.

For certain. And as dependent as Purdue is on their QB... I'm not sure you shouldn't invite him to run by blitzing.

Gotta be aggressive. When you have superior speed and athleticism you try and impose your will!

Typical UT first quarter and the defense getting some stops and it could be over quick
