So we're 6-4....

This is it. We are here. We are playing good solid football once again. People expecting to go 11-0 every year is just unrealistic. With a few breaks going our way this year we are 9-1 or 10 ourselves. Under Butch we will always be close to championships and in our fair share of them.

Relax people, and just enjoy watching the game. Stop wanting a coach to get fired just because you're tired of hearing that a$$hole coworker that no one really likes brag about their bandwagon team winning a game.

Nothing is worse than a Bama fan, or a UF fan who is from Tennessee and lives in Tennessee. I always make fun of those cheese puffs.

Hope you all have a great day!

Sometimes there's valid reasons. When we dominated the series, I got called a bandwagon fan for being from and living in South Carolina as a Tennessee fan. But my uncle played baseball for UT in the 80s. So I try to hold back on the bandwagon assumptions until I ask something like 'so who's your running back' and they say they don't know lol.

One more point I feel needs to be said again... DeBord gets lots of hate, but his unit didn't blow any of those leads...it is the unit that gave us those leads. Our offense has gaps, but is good enough to play against any team in college football and score enough to win. They admittedly are weak on finishing that final drive, but the defense is who let those games go.

Yes and no. The defense didn't get the stops necessary, but the offense couldn't sustain drives in the second half. When the offense keeps going 3 and out the defense gets gassed. It was a total team collapse.

I predicted an 8-4 record before season started. The hype was built up by media and we as fans were sucked into the hype. If we win out, this will program will have made significant progress. We could easily be a one loss team or even undefeated this year, but things didn't go our way. Go Vols! Let's go bowling in warm climate again.

Can Butch Jones and the Vols partially quell the critics by beating Missouri on the road Saturday, let's hope so.

Either we are closer than some people think

OR

We are a decent head coach away from being truly special

My belief is the second one
What you are clearly missing without that sorry coach we would not have the horses to compete. How you got 27 likes just shows real stupidity is rampant.

I truly thought that if UT won out and finished 8-4 they would be ranked. However, with 2 games to go against Mizzu and Vandy + UT didn't receive a single vote in either poll this week I just don't see it happening.
Maybe after a bowl win but going into a bowl the Vols will not break the top 25.

I would bet no one who predicted 8-4 thought UT would lead by double digits against 2 top 10 teams and lead by 1 against Alabama late in the 4th.

I know I didn't, and I said 9-3
I was an 8-4 guy before the season started. Knew we'd get UGA thought Hogs might get us, thought we were a year away from getting Bammer. Saw 2 of 3 losses coming from OK, UF, and Mizzou. Really thought we'd get Gators and Sooners in the back of my mind. Don't like how Mizzou is almost like a trap game for us, want the kids to layeth the smack down on their Tiger donkies this weekend. Hansborough healthy is not good for us hope we send Pinkel out a loser and if we don't we need to hire some of their defensive coaches, especially their dline guy.

We are clearly improved. Three years ago we were basically a bye week for good teams. Now, we can play with anyone and are a dangerous hard fighting team. If we close out the season with 3 more wins, Butch has done a heck of a job.

The east is now clearly Vols and Florida. The way it has been the majority of the last 30 years. If we keep improving I see the east once again dominating the west. We just have to get by a Florida team who we can clearly beat.

Butch has done a really good job. One of the best things he has done is keep the players focused and playing hard after a couple of tough losses. We are in good shape.

I tend to agree with you. You said we would be special wth the talent we currently have and a decent head coach... gosh what would you call a .500 coach (like the one we have on the hill now) :) lol

A "decent head coach" wouldn't have a roster strong enough to be as good as we've been this year. We'd still be a couple years away. Meanwhile we'd be getting run over by Jalen Hurd once a year.

So, in review......

a) We've beaten UGA and nearly no one saw that coming....

b) We're currently 6-4 and practically no one thought we'd be here at this point in the season....

c) We lost in OT to Oklahoma which is currently 9-1 and just beat #6 Baylor and now ranked #7 in the nation

d) We lost to UF in the last minute of the game and UF is now #1 in the SEC East and sitting at 9-1 and ranked #8 in the nation

e) We lost to Bama (late in the game) which is also 9-1, ranked #1 in the SEC West and ranked #3 in the nation

f) We got spanked against Ark - but that team is re-surging big-time and just beat a top-10 LSU team and previously beat a ranked Ole Miss team

Now I'm not promoting "moral victory U" but we're closer than we think (or at least some think). We may have stunk up the locker room with N Texas, but considering the competition thus far and the 2 SEC games to play.....it should have been somewhat expected.

If we win out with broken streaks over UGA and MZ and end at 8-4 with a nice bowl game, I think had this scenario above been placed in everyone's crystal ball on August 1st, there would have been more smiles than frowns in VN.

Blast away if you will...

First of all, you say "we're 6-4" like that's a good thing. It's not. Second, you don't get nice bowl games for 8-4.

So Butch is the only man capable of getting Hurd? ?

Holy smokes! He is a savior!

He's on the list of players that "decent" falls short of signing.

Not really.

Excellent recruiter. Good with his sales pitch.

Terrible with the whistle.

Hurd wanted Tennessee. Any good recruiter could've pulled him to Tennessee.

He's a good coach and it pleases me that you are angry that he's the coach. You clearly don't deserve happiness.

Please. Nobody else but Butch could convince a kid in Nashville to come to Knoxville.

because elite athletes from Tennessee never leave for Florida State or USC or Notre Dame or Alabama or Ole Miss or Georgia

I'm not saying they never do. I'm just saying it wasn't a damn miracle. And there's no reason to think numerous other guys couldn't have done it.

I wanted to beat Arkansas, sure, & i know at the time due to their loss to Toledo, that result was frustrating, but remember, we did leave 10pts on the board. A missed FG (or was it blocked...memory hazy...) and a punt return by Kamara for a TD called back by penalty. Negate those--> 30-24 UT wins.

The losses with us being ahead & in a position to win were disappointing...to be sure, i was largely inconsolable, but:

Double OT loss to a team that has come back & gutted out wins against more than just us, 1pt loss in the hostile Swamp to a team that has beat down many teams, 4pt loss to Arkansas, who have improved over the course of the season & get back the ount return, & we win, as well as a 5pt loss in the last minute to arguably the most talented & deep team in the nation in a hostile road environment is not all that bad with a two-deep that is 80% true Freshmen & Sophs.

But there's also no reason to act like a spoiled little brats regarding the coach. The current coach has done what even Fulmer never did: built a roster from scratch. He's fixed the trash we became (which started under that coach). Get your damn head out of the damn clouds. Be happy that the team's trajectory is steadily going upward. We're a stock that everyone wants to buy. You'd think after all of us went through such horrible times that you'd be able to appreciate substantial and steady improvement, development, and results on the field.

GAHHHHHHH WHY ARE WE ONLY IMPROVING BY WINNING 2 MORE GAMES THAN THE PREVIOUS YEAR EVERY SINGLE YEAR?!?!?l?!? WHY ARE WE ONLY GETTING BETTER AT EVERY POSITION, INCLUDING NOT ONLY THE STARTERS, BUT THE DEPTH AS WELL?!?!?!? WHY ARE WE ONLY COMPETITIVE TIL THE VERY END IN EVERY SINGLE GAME?!?!?!?

We did not get spanked by Arkansas. We had one turnover and they had none. They had possession of the ball for around 11 minutes more than we did. Losing 24 to 20 is not getting whipped.

We have not been spanked by anyone this year. We have went toe to toe with everyone that we have played this year. Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas and Alabama are the four teams that we have lost to. In all those games we were leading at some point in the fourth quarter. Nobody can say that we have been spanked this year. We are consistently competitive, which is a huge step in the right direction.

That my friends are really great signs that we are going in the right direction and have the right coaches. There are not many schools can say that. We have so many reasons, based on facts, to be optimistic about our future.
