So obvious, how to beat Florida!

Unnecessary to be so condescending to a 60 year Vol fan. Pretend like you were sitting next to him at a tailgate and show a little respect.

Just having a little fun - as long as Reelfoot isn't too sensitive for an age joke. If we were at a tailgate, we'd already be a few beers deep and well beyond the age joke ;)

I realize I am overlooking Akron, however, I am 75 years old and we got to beat Florida before I leave this earth ! I want our entire team to think about how easy Kentucky defeated the great Florida Gators. So very simple, but somewhat hard to do. The answer to winning the game against Florida is so simple. COMPLETELY SHUT ANTHONY RICHARDSON DOWN. In my opinion it makes no difference what the remainder of the Florida team does, but if we can shut down Richardson, we will win. We have got to stop/slow down his gaining ground by running the ball and we must treat him just like we treated the Pitt quarterback during the first half of that game. We must punish Richardson to the point he may not want to play the second half. As a proud UTM alumni I have got to see us beat the Gators . So, even though I am overlooking Akron, I just cannot help it. I have been an avid Vol fan since about 16 years old. My friends, that is many years ! Just could not wait any longer to post this. One other thing I noticed in the Pitt game. Often times our up tempo game became much slower at times than usual. Keeping the game as fast as possible will tire the Florida defense. Their depth is not as great as in the past. Anything we can use to our advantage is a must !

This was our achilles heel all last season. I was so tired of seeing QB's gashing the defense and we never stopped that Ole Miss QB, he is still running I think. I am hoping this was lack of depth on the defense and not a problem with the defensive scheme.

Richardson isn't Matt Corral however

Florida's cupboard is pretty bare this season Dan Mullen was a lousy recruiter.
Not really, they have the 12th most talented roster in CFB per the talent composite. That's low for Florida standard's but we are 19th. To OP's point, they got sunk Saturday night by bad QB play. It can sink them again when we play.

All Tennessee has to do to beat Florida is to not focus on the fact that they are playing Florida. Come out and play loose and natural and don’t sabotage yourself by over thinking it. Tennessee loses to Florida between the ears, not between the sidelines

I agree, but that comes with a serious risk. If they can throw out some quick screens to avoid the rush like we did against Pitt -- a la Ball State -- he won't have to be super accurate. They're a one dimensional team, to be sure, but if he can get off a few quick tosses for decent gains, it will force us to alter what we do to defend that more and thus open things up for him a little more. I absolutely believe shutting him down is the key, but I'm still not sold on our defense, even after last weekend (even though it's appearing better that last year, so far).

If I am not mistaken, Tennessee took away all that short stuff against Pitt. Made the Pitt QB's hang onto the ball and make decisions which lead to sacks and QB hurries. Maybe they do a similar approach with Florida. Keep him in the pocket and make him think until it's too late.

Knock him out of the game and make his backup gimpy. Play well enough to get it to overtime and then get a TD and a stop. Worked last week.

Richardson is extremely gifted physically. Be careful about writing him off. It is likely he will have ups and downs... you don't want him on an "up". That said, I think UK spied him most of the game, pushed the pocket, and made him throw. That may or may not be a formula that works for others but it is a good place to start.

I mean as long as we contain him, however we do it, their team does not pose much of a threat to us. I want us to beat the brakes off of that team.

Guys, it's real simple. If you watch the Utah game they played man defense, didn't spy AR and he chewed them up with the big runs. In fact, if you watch the Utah game you can see two defenders turn their backs away from AR and run tot he entire opposite side of the field on that long run for a TD. Kentucky played a very simple D. Mostly zone and spy AR. Why? AR doesn't read defenses well. He also is dangerous if he has guys simply flying at him. He doesn't like building pressure from around the pocket, a lack of running options, and a zone defense that he has to read quickly. Blitzes are fine...but not more than one LB or safety. He gets to second level he is gone. So, play the run, zone pass D scheme, and a spy (preferably Beasley because Banks typically is better in pass coverage except for that horrible over commitment play against Pitt's RB) and you stop Florida. Utah gave that game away. A Rodriguez-less Kentucky beat them. We should as well. Side Note: If you play that kind of a defense, and add in a very hostile and loud Neyland, I am not sure the O-line and AR will be on the same page. When it is loud like that it makes it even more difficult to analyze information quickly. I look for 3 picks in that game.

I have a different take on it.

The game is not about UF beating us. The game, I think, is about us not beating ourselves. We have advantages in:
- experience in the new systems.
- experience at QB.
- improved defense compared to last year.
- better offensive schemes.
- better recievers.

Uk just showed you , keep him in the pocket and make him throw it. It’s that simple
Seeing someone else do it and UT's defense doing it might not be so easy. I can watch Tiger's golf swing all day every day, but I'm not going to have the talent to do it like he does it. And knowing what UK did against him will be used by future opponents, any coaching staff worth their salt will be looking for ways to take advantage of what UK did should they see it again. Not trying to be a downer here, but things are not always as easy as they seem. This is UF. I'll believe the win when I see it.

This Florida team will be 7-5 at best i just can't see them beating Tennessee

If our defense does its usual Florida Game act of whiffing on tackles I will be upset. No more TDs allowed on 3rd and long!

They went to man and got out of the zone. Slovis was moving against the zone, but when UT went man he hesitated and started to get punished. He has to see the WR open before he’ll release the ball. Was his issue at USC.

UF brings their "A" game to UT. UF brings their "B-" game to KY year in and year out.

It won't even look like the same team you just saw.

I've misled myself so many years thinking UT would win against UF based on UF's play against KY. We all know how that worked out.

I don't know if I'm buying the whole Florida has Tennessee beaten between the ears concept. We have an awful lot of new players and players who may have lost to them once, plus this coaching staff hasn't suffered years of defeat from the Gators either. In the past, most of the time they simply have had superior athletes. The Gators are mainly in the heads of the fans. I think the players will be fine in that regard.

He looked terrible. That said idk how well our secondary holds up if we don’t pressure the qb. I think we play to our strengths instead of just keeping him in the pocket and see what happens.
We better maintain gap discipline when we blitz though. If we don’t he will tear us a new one running the ball. He’s too good to not make a few plays here and there but hopefully we can limit it to a couple and then maybe create some negative plays to offset.

Napier will run AR down our throat. He’ll risk him for a winning season. He f’d up against KY. Don’t think he makes that mistake again. We don’t handle running QBs well.

This is a 7-5 team at best. A very good 7-5 team. We’re still not there. Tell me who we beat, FL, LSU, Bama, GA, KY? I don’t see a win.
