So how long is the curve

Big jim needs to dial up some good play calls next season... any man getting paid the outrageous amount of money that this guys been gracious enough to accept to come run an offense should be held to a standard of making things happen and not a bunch of excuses about installation and personnel

Just a inane thought. More money can't make anyone better. Either try your best or not. Not going to be any better an oc depending how much he makes.

Did paying 1.2m to Helton improve his performance?

$1,600,000- lets see some results. I'm not saying hes gotta turn JG (should be a serviceable experienced qb) into a heisman candidate and lead the country in total offense but goodness at that rate i think we need to see some results

What kind of results? I think we will see some improvement but I really dont think we will se major improvement for a couple of years.

There is nothing insane about expecting Chaney to show some visible results given his salary. This is a business. Like any other company or business, the executives are supposed to boost the value of the company’s stock price for the investors through making things happen. I’m not saying that our team is a blue chip stock right now but let’s get off the pink sheets penny stocks.

First to say it - we get 7 wins with JG. If Hurts comes on board, we get 9 wins. We have a relatively easy schedule coming up with only 2 sure losses and 3-4 tossups.

Typically, usually, historically there is a learning curve to a new offensive system in football. Sometimes it’s a few games, sometimes it’s half a season, sometimes it’s a full season and really doesn’t appear full speed till year 2. How much learning curve do you think it will take before Vols fully understand and can grasp and run a new OCs system?

It's like remodeling a house, the time depends on how much you have to tear down first. It will take as long or longer to tear down as it takes to put back the new. Now in the case of our offense, there is not much to tear down, so to me, it will be more like building a new building. Not a remodel.

Curves are generally steep.

Just messing you, man. I got to cut up when

Just messing you, man. I got to cut up when I get the chance. BVS has been getting me down.

Unless it is on a railroad. They are are always long and on a very gradual slope. Now, the real question is our program on a railroad track or a Bristol type race track?

I understand teams have systems. yet I honestly believe that if we simply have an OL that can block protect the QB we will improve drastically. I think they already can run block when properly motivated. Plus the DL will show improvement with Pruitt horse whipping them into shape.

I wouldn't get my hopes up....ROI doesnt mean much around UT.

Are there enough DL for Pruitt to whip into shape?? Huge void in depth there?

Poor analogy - in home construction demo goes pretty quickly relative to the time required to rebuild.

The offense will show some improvement just based on Chaney ability to mold offense to strengths and playcalling. However, JG is horrible at the RPO game right now. He also struggles with the presnap looks. If Chaney can simplify it for him like he did Crompton, he will be serviceable. He will never be more than that.

The third sentence is not based in fact. Our RB's got hit behind the line of scrimmage more than any offense in the SEC, maybe the nation. The OL could not run block. That will be the #1 priority for the OL this year. If they don't improve drastically in run blocking, it will be another very long season.

Not a private enterprise though. But I'll keep semi-political stuff out of here.

I am just saying, regardless of how you feel an roi should be expected, with no correlation to the amount we are paying, I think is just naive. 1) There are undoubtedly diminishing returns and only so well a coach can coach, 2) paying aomeone more doesn't make them a happier or better employee, basic bus mgmt 101 reminds us as much. Only the feeling of inequitable pay can DIMINISH performance. I'd say 1.5 is well, well above that line of demarcation.

Chaney can only be Chaney and past results say he will be just fine, but he's not suddenly going to turn into Art Briles or Sean Mcvay just because of what we pay him.

Precisely. But what is Barnes getting paid? Prob nothing obscene, but look what he's doing.

Imo you pay people based on what they have already achieved, which is why Helton's 1.2m was downright silly. Chaney being the highest paid OC is also silly. Unfortunately, it seems that's where we are right now. UT has to overpay just to get decent coaches to come. Is what it is.

Well...there's Emerson, but hes already being fasttracked to be the next big bust here. Hope he can right that narrative.
