It's all about what you expect as a fan. Some fans are ok with winning 8 games and going to outback bowls. I've seen us be a better program than that, and I won't be happy with us not competing for sec championships. And, the key to competing for sec championships is making the sec title game. Which we should have done this yr. We are better, but were still a middle tier sec team. I think we can do better.
I agree completely, I have nothing to go on except for past results and those told me that our once strong program had fallen to the depths of the college football cellar like D2, FCS levels, not to mention dead last in the SEC. So I take the word of the staff and administration when they say they had to rebuild the entire program including the once proud storied foundation.
Now with that being said I try to use common sense with knowing the strength of the SEC and understand that this can/could take a while.
This job was unique from say a Florida or Arkansas etc. job due to the fact that those programs still had some talent in the cupboard so to speak. We was decimated due to poor recruiting for our program from previous regime.
This is what I base my stance on when making my statements/posts. While I'm not "happy" with where we are, I'm very pleased with continued improvement each year.
What I think a lot of posters don't understand (and I could be dead wrong) is that when CBJ was hired, he and AD Hart was in agreement that this wasn't going to be a quick fix. Therefore I believe based on comments from previous press conferences from both our coach and our AD that we are on par with the "timeline" set by both parties. Now have there been disappointments and total meltdowns on some occasions? Absolutely there have been. I do however believe we have over achieved in some areas while underachieving in others.
For 1 we have a pretty decent starting lineup when healthy, we could compete with any one in the country, but we don't quite have the quality depth in place to not be exposed to weaknesses as we've witnessed throughout this year. Now some say it's on the coaches and while I agree again I have to look back at our past classes since this staff took over. You have to remember the numbers are always limited. The 1st couple of years we oversigned and worked loop holes and used every color of a shirt we could use to get talent on campus. While this was great and exciting at the time it has limited us in our most recent class to where now we're having to be very picky due to limited numbers to work with. IMO it's easier to recruit your talent for starters while it takes longer to develop your depth.
That's just my opinion and my view from which I make my comments. I've rambled long enuff now just trying to explain my views.
