So after watching the Butler

Thats funny...

Butler has the #5 scoring defense in the country...
We are KNOWN for our defense.

NCAA Men's Basketball
Division IScoring Defense
Through Games 03/16/2008

Rank Name GM W-L OPP PTS OPP PPG
1 Wisconsin 33 29-4 1774 53.8
2 Stephen F. Austin 31 26-5 1725 55.6
3 Washington St. 32 24-8 1826 57.1
4 Air Force 30 16-14 1715 57.2
5 Butler 32 29-3 1848 57.8
6 Georgetown 32 27-5 1855 58
7 Iowa 32 13-19 1857 58
8 VCU 31 24-7 1801 58.1
9 Winthrop 33 22-11 1919 58.2
10 UCLA 34 31-3 2009 59.1

Your low PPG against average says nothing about your ability to play defense. It says more about your abysmally boring and absurdly slow pace of play, not to mention the weakness of your schedule.

I'm sure your heavily UT slanted news media isn't giving the topic much coverage, but Bruce Pearl (and a few others) are being mentioned as top candidates for IU.
are really so silly as to think that the TN media doesn't cover all things Pearl more than everyone else in the world?

uh huh...

dictating the pace of the game has nothing to do with defense huh? seems to me that controlling the tempo of the game is what you try to do, on the opposite end of the spectrum - but of course that goes down as "exciting and amazing offense" in your book.

And to be clear - this team is not one to hold the ball and slow down the offense, they just use good ball movement to get a good shot. There is a big difference between the two. You'll see a good offense from Butler on Sunday - not a horse race as you would prefer to see.

I cannot wait...

up until this, we've been exploring the fringes of the gaping hole in your basketball knowledge. here, we jumped in with both feet and now know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the extent of your repertoire ends at the edge of the Butler campus.

Listening to you, I have to assume you're going to cut down the nets in SA, but I've heard little about that from the national media. What gives?

I was covering the game for WDEF News 12 in Chattanooga. I watched both games from floor level and Butler is for real. They can rebound and shoot the ball. Tennessee has their hands full.

I'll be happy when the Vols put an end to this nonsense tomorrow and send Cinderella home with a busted lip.

Hey big papa do you ever back up anything with a fact or reference or do you just call everyone stupid and then take off. Pace of play and limiting another teams chances of scoring are the net same as causing turnovers.

We're talking about this year, not last year. This is now, I'm willing to admit you took it to us last year, but this is this year, face reality

So you're a facts guy...I can appreciate that.

Do you have any statistical data that can prove that something as immeasurable as "pace of play" is the same as causing turnovers?

the guy pretended that your scoring D is somehow a stat relative to your ability to play defense. I've watched enough to know that it isn't. Your pace of play is a strategic decision to take advantage of your limited athleticism. What factoid do you need to support it? You want pace stats to support my comment, or would you like stats about UT's offensive or defensive efficiency to prove that your stats merit no WOWs? Limiting scoring opportunities is a style of play, not a measure of defensive ability, period. Opp FG% might help your argument, if you were playing teams capable of putting it in the hole.

Spouting stats is worthless IMO. You have a 30-3 record against a very shoddy schedule and your seeding reflected that. What more is there to say? Our record is 30-4 against the toughest schedule in the land. We are a 2 seed for it. The committee appears to agree more with my impressions than it does with your statistical genius.

I'll be here awaiting more from you.

Yeah it's a simple combination of offensive efficiency and pace of place.

Ah, yes, it's all crystal clear to me now. I don't know how I missed it before.

"Pace of place." I'll be the first to admit that I was unfamiliar with this critical aspect of the game. Thankfully, Butler fans have been gracious enough to share their uber-expertise with us.

Let's be fair to the talking heads even though in their diagnosis of the game NO ONE has ever seemed to lay their finger on "pace of place" just yet. Our friends has just discovered the keys to winning a championship. John Wooden, Pat Summit, Dean Smith, Adolf Rupp, etc. He's got the keys they don't. If Bruce ever leaves UT then MR. Pace of Place has a spot on our staff here

don't provide the relevant stats. let the genius do his own homework.

It won't help you to try and degenerate this into a debate about English or education. It's about basketball. You want to have that debate in a meaningful way, I'll be happy to oblige.

If UT wins on Sunday, I wonder how many of these trash talking Butler fans will show up on here? I bet the number will drop, but hey what do I know? This happens every game... fans talk trash, UT wins, they vanish.
