So, about that OC position.... (Merged)

If it were Friend, why was it not announced on day one?
Because Pruitt is so worried about what us fans think about it, he decided it would be better to recruit through ESP without an OC and wait until it was over to announce it, you know, 5 days ago.

after the Ice Man wraps up his business in Cali...should be around 2nd or 3rd Jan...:D

GO VOLS...RECRUIT LIKE HECK!

Some of you believe an OC is a make it or break it with this team. Let Pruitt coach, and make his own decisions, it really doesn't matter at this point, April is a long way off. Your only making yourself miserable.

I’m getting confused...
Did we already hire a guy and we are just waiting on an announcement?
Or
Are we legit getting turned down by guys and Pruitt/Fulmer are trying to keep it cool?

What is confusing? None of your assumptions are legit. He is looking for someone that will fit his current staff, and if it is an internal hire, there is nothing anyone can do about it and I trust his judgement.

We’re not hiring an OC this season. It won’t really make a difference with us chasing another 5 or 6 wins. We’re positioning ourselves to beat the rush and make the OC hire in Nov 2019. Be patient.

Not, he is already on the staff just needs to be promoted. Which I am not a fan of.

the answer is one of three possibilities.

1. The guy we hired is on a team currently competing for something and doesnt want the information leaked. If it's this one, MOST college bowl games will be completed in a weeks time. If it's an NFL team, the regular season ends this weekend (I cant imagine waiting until the end of the NFL playoffs)

2. The guy we want to talk to is on a team currently competing for something and doesnt want the information leaked. If it's this one, see above

3. UT has been turned down a bunch (as per usual) and the university has learned its lessons about not making that sh!t public anymore until they find someone who might say "yes". If it's this one, hold on to your hats for Schianogate 2.0. This process may go on for a while and may end with UT covering its arse by promoting someone already on staff. If they really wanted someone on staff, the hire and announcement would have already been made. No reason to keep that a secret.

I think if I'm putting these in order of probability, it would be #1 (they made the hire),#3(they dont know what they are doing) ,#2 (I needed a plausable third choice)

First part: True

2nd part:. How do we know for sure that Will Friend would not be a good OC? I honestly doubt Cutcliff could do a lot this yr with what we have blocking out there.

It took 31+ days to hire from within? Not a good look.

I don't know why he hasn't named him yet.

Some here on VN are just howler monkeys. Some are just skeptical of Pruitt because he's a Bammer, never been a HC, not Mullen or Leach or pretty much anyone else or all the above.
All are very good reason to be skeptical.

May not announce till after national signing day.

It took no time for Helton to take the WKY job. It gave TN more than enough time to interview, evaluate, etc... anybody they want. So if this new OC fails, we can’t say it was a “rushed hire”... Pruitt was more of a “rushed hire”.
If any coach has “agreed”, wouldn’t their former employer want enough time to find their replacement?
This makes me think it’s NOT a current OC in NFL or college.
