Sick of the haters

With.....
I don't think we are vastly superior. I have no faith in the size and strength of our guys up front. I think that we need some competition within the team to require them to get better or sit. When you are the only game in town, you generally don't try as hard as required. Especially starting out in a system like they were in. I think they have the potential to be vastly superior, but we don't have it with the guys that are on the field right now.

No hate involved. This team has issues. Some is development. Some is talent. Some is attitude.

As for JG, yes. He is tough. He has one of the best arms UT has had in years.... maybe since Shuler. That's not his problem and never has been. His problems were on display in this game for anyone watching. He doesn't make good reads at the LOS to pick up blitzes or consistently get them into the right play. He doesn't read coverages well. On both of these things, he's behind where a 3rd year player should be. He has had a tendency this year to stare receivers down which results in the D reacting before he throws. He's got the arm to make the completion but the receivers don't have room to operate. His inconsistent and often poor recognition of coverages frequently results in him throwing the ball a half count late. This increases the hits he takes and results in receivers having to come back for the ball when it is pretty obvious that wasn't his intent. The play he was bailed out by a INT call vs Charlotte while attempting to throw to Callaway is a clear example.

Many of the hits he takes are from the OL missing blocks. But most that take place after about 2.5 seconds (the standard amount of time a QB should count on to throw) are because he failed to recognize a blitz or make good pre and post snap reads of coverages. He doesn't "feel" pressure. Example- the play that Tatum got planted in his lap.

Unfortunately, there are some new regressive tendencies. On more than a few occasions over the past few weeks, he has "checked down" with good protection and open receivers down field. He has also begun to lose his footwork causing him to sail balls that he previously threw into a very tight window.

That's not hate. That's not wishing him ill. That's just where he is. The OL and RB's have significant issues as well The reason I spent more time on his issues is that so many are in denial and some follow and defend him cult-like. No one is defending the OL... they're pretty much universally criticized. You'll see one of his devotees respond to this post directly.
The best post about him yet. I don't hate on the guy, I truly wish that he would learn and improve. Hell, tuck the ball and run once in awhile. I am afraid that he is going to get himself seriously injured.

Every time I hear him blame the players I start thinking we probably should let him go. I mean if you can't coach well enough to beat Charlotte by more than 11 points then you aren't much of a coach. Oh and this time I don't think you can blame the defense.
Saban lost to Louisiana-Monroe his first year at Bama and that bama team had exponentially more talent than this team has. In other words, you can’t really gauge the ability of a coach until he has some time to get his players in the program.

I've been with you every step of the way about JG. But the above statement is BS. Sorry.

Sure you can judge. A good coach makes players better.

Not an accurate or fair judge IMO. Some of you try to make this much more simple than it is. A good coach will get more out of his players, but some players (mainly this offensive line and our defensive back 7) are so bad from a talent perspective that there is a max of what you can get out of them.

The max should be the ability to dominate Charlotte. Sorry man but we have some real problems on this staff that CJP will have to address.

We scored one offensive touchdown against a team we are vastly superior to. While there is certainly a talent deficit to be a top teir team, we are not getting the most out of what we have and games like this are a perfect illustration of it. So its time to acknowledge that there is more than just a talent deficit with this team.

Yes.
There is some paper talent on this team that is not enjoying the drastic change from the band guy to Pruitt. They obviously need to be on Pruitt for not being convincing enough tho. It's not the first time in the history of college football that has happened.
Knowing one of our starters and his family very well, that's been known since the spring.

Of course that's an excuse if the coach mentions it and hes throwing the entire team under bus.

Sure you can.

You look ignorant, but you can do it.

Y’all can judge all you want then lol. I’m personally gonna give him til the end of year 2 to make up my mind on him. I have Dooley and Jones less than that though.

Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t made up my mind yet. I expected more from him and his staff and I think he’s going to have to make some staff changes this off season. A good coach doesn’t need “his players” to show that he’s a good coach he makes the players he’s coaching better. The O-line has not gotten any better.

I'm saying if your putting much stock in what's going on 9 games in your ignorant. I'm pretty sure we agree. I'm just saying they can judge him right now if they choose. It's just silly.

If hes struggling to win 6 next year I'd start to worry.

Snarky? Lol

Are you female?

If UT doesnt win anymore games it will have substantially less to do with who's not playing QB and a lot more to do with who is playing OL.

Keep barking the talking points given to you but that same offensive line along with KC drove for 2 TDs against Bama and a field goal attempt in the 3rd. After which the coaches allowed only one pass the rest of the game. Not even LSU could manage that. What's their excuse, OL????

That is very true but I'm not sure that throwing players under the bus each week is going to help us recruit. And I don't see many head coaches doing that like Pruitt does. It's like a reflex he's developed.

Maybe premature on Pruitt but his throwing players under the bus each week can't be helping us recruit. I mean just come out and say .. We as team have a lot of learning to do and we need to get more effort from everyone. We're still finding ourselves during this rebuilding process and no one said it be pretty. Give us your time and support and we'll get there..... But NO he throws the players under the bus.

Where am I getting talking points? JG is an average QB to this point. KC is at UT because hes an average QB. KC has had some good drives since hes been here and is a very capable back up. Hes also had drives that werent very good. Neither one of them have a talent level that covers up for the OL we re fielding right now, which is bad on a historic level.

Not going to know that unless KC plays. And the last time he played he was very good... 98QBR ... 2 TD drives and 1 field goal attempt against the best team in the country.

Each week as in after every game?

You get really hung up on last games. What was your opinion of JG after AU?

Refresh my memory, what circumstances led to KC being in Knoxville?

Well every time we lose which is almost every week.... and against Charlotte
Which players is he throwing under the bus?
Since Bama or going all the way back to WV?
I ll prolly have to check that because that sounds a little too convenient for the point.

Give them some credit and a minute to grow. JG is tough, has a great arm and some talent. We have a young team with some promise! Let’s get behind these guys and have some fun!!!
I honestly hope JG is the real deal but right now we do not look good at all. We put 14 offensive points on the board against Alabama's defense with KC at QB. LSU put up a goose egg against that defense last night. Considering how bad we look why not consider letting someone else get a chance. Entering the game at the end to hand the ball off is not a chance. JG overthrew wide open receivers yesterday.

Jeremy Pruitt on Tennessee’s 40-14 loss to West Virginia: ‘That’s on me’

"The most important thing to me is how your team plays, because how your team plays tells you what kind of coach you are,” Pruitt said during his postgame press conference. “Their team played better than our team did today. That’s on me. I need to get these guys to where they execute on a higher level, where they believe in their self. And I think we’ll do that.”

Jeremy Pruitt post-game comments following Tennessee’s disappointing loss to Florida

opening statement:

“First of all, you have to give Coach Mullen and his staff a ton of credit, created a bunch of turnovers. They executed, and that’s one me.. You have to give credit to Florida.

Jeremy Pruitt gets emotional during postgame presser following Tennessee’s loss at Georgia

"I said it last week, there were a lot of guys who played their best game last week for us and it was hard to tell that because we turned the football over. I said I thought I saw the right look in some of the guys’ eyes and I wasn’t wrong. Those same guys came out here today, they practiced this week hard and they didn’t let up.”
“I learned we’ve got fight in us, that we’re not going to quit, it kind of gets me excited. … I’m proud of them and the way they fought. … It isn’t easy. That team in red today tried to change the way we fought. That’s the way they’re coached, that’s the way they play. They play the right way. Our guys kept fighting which means we’re headed in the right direction and that excites me. That’s why I’m getting a little bit emotional.”
