You can barely contain yourself, you're so excited about the season lol.

Dude we might have half that for the All- SEC teams.

1st team All- American
Evan Berry KR

3rd team All- American
Derek Barnett DE
Jaylen Reeves Maybin LBB

That's it.

If Barnett and JRM have seasons like they did last year or better, there is no way they will not be first team AA.

Stat wise, they were good enough last year for 1st team AA. Yet didnt get the nod

A lot of good players in CFB

Which goes to show its more about popularity and personal bias than actual performance.

There is no question that Barnett has been slighted on some of these preseason lists for the 2nd year in a row because he wasn't as highly touted coming out of high school.

Wonder if the 2001 Hurricanes had 13 1st and 2nd team all-Americans

That team had 39 players drafted. 17 in the first round...

Just some of the guys drafted...

Andre Johnson
Sean Taylor
Kellen Winslow
Bryant McKinnie
Jonathan Vilma
Jeremy Shockey
Ed Reed
Willis McGahee
Vince Wilfork
Clinton Portis
Najeh Davenport
Phillip Buchanon
Mike Rumph
Frank Gore

They had 4 rbs on that team that started in the NFL.

Just some crazy stats from that roster. As you noted, 4 RBs that not only made NFL rosters, but had long-standing careers there by RB standards. Davenport even managed to sneak in the ol' "dump in a random girl's laundry basket" prank in the midst of his career.

But then, look at the DBs on that roster. Now, some didn't blossom until after 2001, but still... that roster of DBs included Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Antrel Rolle, Phillip Buchanon, Kelly Jennings, and Mike Rumph. That's 6 players from one position group that were drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft. 6! That's insane!

They had 2 TEs taken in the 1st round (Winslow and Shockey), 7 OL and 7 DL drafted.

I like our team this year, and we could even make the 4-team playoff, but to say we have more elite NFL talent than that team is just laughable at best.

According to Wikipedia, Miami had 6 players on AA teams from various media outlets.

They had 10 players make the AP all America team, so that list from wiki isn't correct

Do you have a link to that?

So it looks like the 2001 Miami squad had 2 first-team players, and another 8 on the second team. Ten total, which might be the record.

Here's the link: Crouch, Grossman top 2001 AP All-America team

Scroll to the bottom, past the write-up, for the listing. [hint: to make finding the Miami players easier, hit ctrl-F and type "Miami" in the box]

Please look up that roster.

Arguably the best college football team ever.

I'm telling you not to sleep on this team. By my count we have 11 sure 1st round picks:

QB Josh Dobbs
RB Jalen Hurd
WR Preston Williams
TE Ethan Wolf
DE Derek Barnett
DE Jonathan Kongbo
DT Shy Tuttle
DT Kahlil McKenzie
LB Darrin Kirkland Jr.
CB Cam Sutton
CB Justin Martin

And another 6 with 1st round potential:

QB Jarrett Guarantano
WR Josh Malone
DE Kyle Phillips
LB Austin Smith
DB Stephen Griffin
DB Nigel Warrior

In the perfect world the 2016 Vols could match 2001 Miami's record of 17 1st round picks.

They might have better depth. But I like our top line talent.

Dobbs is better than any QB they had.

Hurd will be a better pro than any of their RBs.

Barnett is better than any of their DEs. Kongbo as well potentially. Kahlil has the potential to be as good as Wilfork. Shy will be better than whoever their #2 DT was.

Kirkland should be as good as Vilma.

Cam is better than any of their corners.

So we have some advantages on them. But I do agree 39 draft picks and 17 1st rounders is unlikely to be matched. However, I think the 2016 Vols could get close. I think we'll have about 12 1st round picks and 30-35 players drafted overall.

Dobbs

At some point, you need to smell what you're shoveling

Don't call him Dobbs, please.

Dobbs is the bright and talented young man who plays QB for the Volunteers.

D4H is the guy you're talking to. Please call him that, or spell it out if you wish.

Thanks.
