This is really scientific, because coaches that were not well known to a new fan base result in failure 57.38% of the time.

This is as weak an argument as any that has been made on this board.

But, if you want, I can provide a list of successful coaches at the NFL and college level that no one knew a damn thing about when they were hired.

I was very excited. I had family in Cincinnati so was familiar with him. I was hoping they'd talk to him before they announced they had. Was never a Charlie Strong fan and definitely not a Gundy fan.

I was very excited, not about Butch, but excited that anybody besides Dooley would be coaching us.

Was the final pinch of reality that Derek was no longer with us. Hell, he could have been a soccer coach and I still would have been excited.

Knowing Dooley ran him off the field told me all I needed to know.

That's the dumbest stance I've ever heard. So butch beat Spurrier twice. By that logic you'd rather have Butch than Spurrier?
You think a good coach should prevail over a bad one regardless of talent?

.....Butch Jones was named as the new head coach to replace Dooley?

I was really happy, just what we needed at the time and he has done an outstanding job getting us back to a competitive football team and in changing the culture of our expectations...now weather he can turn the corner and make us a champion (literal) is the next step?

To tell the truth, when he was announced, I thought they meant Butch Davis. Turns out I was at the Cincinnati game. I had to be told who he was and until visiting Volnation, I never knew Dooly had beaten one of Butches teams.

Who knows who Cincinnati's HC is ? It's irrelevant.

This is Butch's 1st relevant job. I don't consider him a failure due to how he flipped our roster, that alone is enough that he doesn't ever have to work again.

I would like for him to see it thru to the NC. We are still on an upward trajectory, our W/L record doesn't show it, our defense took a step back(Butch pulled a Dooley but I like Shoop), but the Foruda win was a huge win and way fun to be there.

Go Vols 2017!

Love him or hate him Butch has really built us back from the dumpster fire of 2012. I don't know if he is the long term answer but Butch brought TN Football back from the dead.

I was happy. Dooley was GONE and we didn't sign Strong.
Butch seemed exciting about coming here and HOPE was in the air.

Kiffin, Dooley, and Butch. Frankly, they all felt like desperate choices. I'm not saying Butch isn't a good guy. It was just an underwhelming (to further use that phrase) choice.

We deserve a guy like Chip Kelly. That doesn't mean we'll get him. But you guys are crazy passionate about this program and deserve that level of coach.

Do you think it was Butch or could any competent coach have came in and won 8 or 9 games a year with our facilities and tradition? Honest question.

I've wondered if a better X's and O's coach could've done any better.
