“I mean, he’s probably been the best player throughout the course of the first third of camp here,” Shoop said following Tennessee’s practice Thursday afternoon at Haslam Field.

“I mean, I think Nigel Warrior — I’ve coached for a long, long time, and his maturity and what he’s done just growing up as a man, maturing over the last three or four months, the relationship that he’s developed with his teammates and his coaches and trying to do everything right in the meeting rooms, on the field, in the community is as good as I’ve ever seen.”

His dad, Dale Carter, was the greatest player in secondary in UTs history. Better than Eric Berry (and I know this comment is sacrilegious)

He was very immature last year. I got that from the interviews when he said he's never studied a playbook. Good to see him maturing.

He definitely has elite ability. Potentially another Honey Badger.

He was talking about high-school. I'm 55 but I never saw a playbook in high-school. Maybe they're common now.

Isn't he in jail for like a murder charge now? lol
I hope Warrior lives up to the hype that get got here while he was being recruited. I know he can hit, Rashaan Gaulden can hit too, he decleated numerous players last year.

Yes, but it was in California so he was only sentenced to 11 years in jail. Probably be out in 3-4 years.

Kmac is not in live contact drills, but has been working out a lot. Tuttle also appears ahead of schedule. But don't expect to hear raves about either one of them this spring. I think both will be ready to contribute in the fall. Taylor has looked good at DE also. I for one am glad to hear that Warrior is grasping everything now, he could be a dynamic player for us on defense. GBO!!!!

Taylor has gained like 14 pounds already this offseason. I'm expecting some good things from him. This is his year to make some money.

Not that Bob is asking me.....but I think Warrior should replace Todd Kelly at SS, and TK should move to LB.

Just throwin in my 2 cents

Yes, he is. Janzen Jackson could have been one of the best safeties ever to play the game, if he wouldn't have had mental issues! JJ was Eric Berry's understudy while at UT.

For his size I've never seen a more ferocious hitter than Janzen Jackson. The implementation of the no launching foul, and targeting rule really hamstrung him though. I think he was a part of the reason the launch rule came to be..

So a young guy like Warrior has performed the best? I love the praise but whats that say about our upperclassmen on defense?

It doesn't say anything? All this article says is that Shoop sees elite, top level talent out of Warrior. Nice try making something out of nothing.

I agree. Warrior is more talented than the others, says great things about him that he has the intangibles to go with all that ability....says nothing about the others who can be good, solid players alongside him with better coaching.

Does this really surprise anyone? His dad is possibly the best safety ever at UT. He was a two time all American and NFL all pro.

The first time I saw Warrior on the field for the Vols, I knew he is a special talent, and if he works hard he could be a great player for the Vols.
