Shoop: Warrior 'probably' UT's 'best player' this spring

Does this really surprise anyone? His dad is possibly the best safety ever at UT. He was a two time all American and NFL all pro.

The first time I saw Warrior on the field for the Vols, I knew he is a special talent, and if he works hard he could be a great player for the Vols.

I didn't realize until the last few years that Dale Carter was actually a transfer that only played 2 years.

Three best ever safeties at UT are Deon Grant, Dale Carter and Eric Berry. A good argument can be made from any of those three as the best ever at UT.

I concur. There may be others that deserve consideration but it's hard to say those aren't the 3 best UT safeties I've ever seen

I had awful seats for the TN/SC game last year, but from the high end zone view, Warrior looked explosive running to the corner to stop the run.

For his size I've never seen a more ferocious hitter than Janzen Jackson. The implementation of the no launching foul, and targeting rule really hamstrung him though. I think he was a part of the reason the launch rule came to be..

ill never forget the hit he put on the gators WR/Punt returner i believe his name was James got absolutely blown up in the endzone by Jazen, and then you take the shot he put on the N.C dude in the bowl game. He truly hit like Sean Taylor.

He looked different, more explosive than anybody else in our defense, by far. It was criminal that they didn't get him on the field last year, especially given our secondary issues.

He was talking about high-school. I'm 55 but I never saw a playbook in high-school. Maybe they're common now.
Really? Where'd you play? Midway (Sorry Midway folks...all seven of you)? I played at RCHS in Kingston. We won 3 state championships between '65 and '69 while I was there, and our playbooks were drummed into our heads. D'ya think maybe there's a connection? BTW...I'm a very young 66.

I wish that we wouldn't put too much stock into spring practice. Every year, I read the articles, watch the interview clips, and get sucked into the hype and then come fall, I am questioning what happened between the end of spring and August because it never seems to be substantiated.

Couldn't possibly agree more. All-American, Heisman trophy winning Spring practice players somehow turn into 2nd and 3rd string players who can't tackle anybody. I'm with you, I'm still reading everything (because I'm addicted) but I'm taking a much more cautious approach. Not gonna buy hype this spring, we'll see what it all looks like in September.

Its already out of control. Ive read many people post Warrior should start over TK. Thats not happening people. Forget it.

Loved Deon Grant but he was no where near the hitter that Eric Berry and Dale Carter were. I think if JJ's had been on straight he could have ended up in that conversation.

I remember last fall, people on here demanding us starting Warrior over Abernathy. Abernathy has turned out to be a pretty solid player for us. Hopefully TK and Abernathy both stay healthy this year or we will be relying on a RS FR and an incoming FR to replace them with. Not saying Warrior isn't ready, but experience means a lot in SEC ball.

He's a much better athlete, just needs to understand coverages....that's where TKJr has the advantage over Nigel.

A Warrior-Abernathy safety duo would make us much more athletic and potentially much better at the position. TKJr has good instincts and a good nose for the ball, but he gives up a lot plays because of his limited athletic ability for an SEC safety. Warrior has the talent to be a great SEC safety, TKJr only a good one.
