Shoop explains what he'd have run vs Florida on 4th down

Don't feed the troll. The Alabama game is starting to get more even, and they know it. Barring significant injuries, Vols have at least an even chance of winning that game.

Tusk isn't being a troll. He's an Alabama fan. He isn't hiding that fact. Of course he's going to speak well of his team and talk smack about ours. He isn't being like a lot of other posters and hiding behind Vol screen names and he isn't being disrespectful. If someone gives him sh**, of course he's going to give it back.

JMO...I don't mind him

Now UF will score the game winning TD when we send the house and Barnett, Vereen, Phillips, JRM, and Kongbo trip over each other Three Stooges style, giving Del Rio a clear path to walk it in to the end zone.

I didn't say you would "need" the excuses... but folks do this all of the time. They lay the ground work for an excuse just in case they need it later....

Shoop may be another Sunseri for all I know. Thanks for that one btw.

But he does have a successful track record of taking poor talent and producing. Now we get to see if he can take 4* and 5* players and produce even better.

The Nittany Lion's DNA is defense. They come out in some games and look like a junior varsity on O, but that side has historically been the calling card. Will it translate to Tenn?

Besides, all things being equal, this season, we will be matching your new D coordinator with one of our own.

Plus, go back and look at how his defenses performed at lowly, pathetic Vandy. Shoop was the secret to Franklin's success. His defenses carried Franklin's annual, feckless, inept offenses at both Vandy and Penn State.

Indeed, KBV....

He plays the kind of defense I like. I would probably not make it as a DC, I would blitz EVERY play! LOL

If the season goes as the hype train is predicting, every team before Alabama will be underdogs. The two possible exceptions being GA and aTm (away games).

The 1st four teams will absolutely be underdogs (yes, FL included).

If the season goes as the hype train predicts, the Bama game could be a toss up on who is the underdog with a 3-7 pt point spread. Bama won by 5 pts last year...on your home field. Give us 3 pts for home field advantage and it's a two point spread. We have the established QB, you don't. If TN plays to expectations, this season could get really interesting real fast and no one will be being snuck up on. They'll all know we are coming.

Poland was a pretty big underdog. Just saying, after the Bama game, your biggest challenge will be not falling asleep at the wheel.

One of the richest traditions going with this rivalry is the timing of it ON the schedule. Coach Bryant and Neyland and others knew this is when the big boys usually play their best. The Georgia game last season was the first time we came in as an underdog since 2009. Tenn gets that much accomplished, you're already standing in higher cotton.

Nope - they sack Del Rio ... take the ball away and score 6!

Gonna be hard sneaking up on folks blowing that trumpet.

HEADLINE: DEFENSE INTENDS TO WIN GAME THROUGH TACKLING AND AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR.

I'm not sure this will land on the ticker as breaking news. What exactly do we need to keep secret about here?

I'll get back with you after the Bama game. Give you my honest opinion.

If it is an opinion, any not give it now? If you want to give us your ANALYSIS after the game then I'll listen.

But one is not the other and if you have a prediction/opinion then let it loose. No need to be a sissy after you already screwed down the courage to jump on a rival teams message board and fling poop.

If any one of the three DBs around the WR drag him down b/4 the sticks.....UT wins, we're not having this conversation and Janek is still probably the DC (unfortunately).

you do know that shoop only coached at penn state for 1 year right? i think shoop's strengths and coaching prowess are of his own and not attributed to penn state in any way...

You only mention Penn St., but Shoop turned Vandy into a stout defense and the only thing they are known for is being bad at football. Don't leave out facts to try and support your opinion. Shoop is an excellent DC, he has been his whole career. Pretty safe to assume he will not regress considering the increased talent he will have to work with. Pruitt is a decent defensive coordinator, even though I watched in person as Dobbs did pretty much anything he wanted last year against UGA, but Aranda at LSU and Shoop were widely considered to be the best offseason hires in the league.

Your missing context and a lot of give and take. But to fill you on the discussion: It was brought up, can your new D-coordinator get it done?
I said: Stopping all SEC team's running attack? No.

Tenn is going to be aggressive with the blitz:
I paraphrased: Not without a lot of mixed results.

That catch you up?

He coached at Penn St. two years, and his defenses were ranked 2nd and 14th nationally. Should be a nasty defense.

And what you get from your down linemen. If they get a push and a decent inside pass rush, all things are possible. There's that LOS thing again.
We outrushed you and your Heisman guy at your house last year, we sort of have that LOS thing covered with you guys last season and this one to come it seems.

If you guys keep taking out of context who I was speaking too and the way they shaped their comments, it's going to be easy to misunderstand. You seem a bit apprehensive about my motives in the land of orange.

Vandy would be Shoop's calling card. Otherwise, why would Tenn ever stoop to hire a coordinator from the Commodores. That's the equivalent of Bama reaching for someone down on the Plains. You must believe.

Pruitt's resume goes back to his coaching tenure at Bama and as coordinator during the Seminoles NC season. Nothing was stopping Mark Richt's slow and painful pursuit of average. Pruitt wasn't going back had Richt survived.

But that last rush by Henry, wouldn't you agree, that was a keeper?

Agreed. We're strong across the DL. We're very talented and deep at DE, very talented but a little thin at DT due to 1 being injured and the other currently suspended. I'll certainly leave the details up to Shoop, lol, but I believe we'll be stronger scheme-wise this year than we've been during Jones' tenure.

I think it's important to make note of the fact many of the teams UT will be playing this year will be trying out new QB's. The mixed results may be more positive than negative this season, because of that.

I've been wrong before, though.

I'm not going to put words in his mouth, he says what he says. But being thin at tackle and stopping the run cold doesn't add up. Not 4 quarters. When he talks about being more aggressive with pressure, that's reasonable, given his line depth.
