That's a trend I'm seeing a lot of...I think have of Durkin's staff at Maryland have been head coaches..you can make a decent living as a coordinatorHere's an interesting factoid. If/when Shoop's arrival becomes official, three of the nine assistant coaches working for Butch will have been head coaches themselves, however briefly:
DeBord (CMU, '00-'03)
Shoop (Columbia, '03-'05)
Scott (Miami, Oct-Dec '15, interim)
That's the offensive and defensive coordinators, plus the TE/?? coach.
Can't think of any college coach in America with more assistants who have experience at the top level. Says a lot that they're all willing to work for him. Makes him a "coaches' coach," imho.
Not a bad job of building up the talent for a dynasty. Butch's recruiting skills aren't confined to the player ranks.
From one of the VQ mods:
"I don't know how it's a positive sign if he heads back today without signing anything. He wants to talk to his family about it so we will see what comes of it. I think there probably isn't as much confidence about this happening as there was yesterday. But, I don't think it's dead or anything like that."
I believe I saw it mentioned that his son is a walk on WR at PSU?
I wonder what his options will be? I don't know much about walk-ons transferring, but I can imagine JF being a total tool if Shoop bails on him and likely seals his fate as HC.
He can always transfer here if he wants. He just would have to sit out a year (wouldn't play anyway). And if Franklin wanted to be a major tool (so probably), he could try to cause him to lose a year of eligibility by banning him from transferring here, similar to Baker Mayfield. Franklin would not succeed though, as we're not in the same conference and don't play one another.
I think it would be mentioned and discussed more in sports media that day as part of the overall discussions about college football in general. I would have said it would take attention from the NC had that been my intent. I was not promoting that at all.You think the announcement of UT hiring a new DC during the NC game and would take attention away from the NC game?
