Shoop confirmed on campus

I just find it hard to believe they will let this one slip through the cracks. I know there have been a lot of questionable decisions and moves by our AD in the past but they know it is now or never. A big hire is a must at all costs. Our chances for next year are as good as they've been in a very very long time

College Station? Is he going to TX A&M? I'd much prefer him go to State College, get the wife and Kids, and come back... Unless he is getting Chief to coach DB's or LB's... The plot thickens... Track the plane pronto

Good point. I just keep wondering whether UT will really pay his $800k buyout and give him significant pay raise. It would be extremely out of character for Hart and co.

Forbes just listed us as third in team value behind Texas & Notre Same. So I say pay that man his money. Volnation needs it.

How to get your kids to look at you like you're weird- walking around the house singing "Shoop".

He is from Pennsylvania.

He has been with Franklin for years now.

There is no guarantee as of yet how much the Vols offered.

Franklin's time at PSU is at risk, boosters aren't happy with him. Shoop can read the writing on the wall, another year like the last and they'll all be gone. Now is the best time to move.

Here's an interesting factoid. If/when Shoop's arrival becomes official, three of the nine assistant coaches working for Butch will have been head coaches themselves, however briefly:

DeBord (CMU, '00-'03)
Shoop (Columbia, '03-'05)
Scott (Miami, Oct-Dec '15, interim)

That's the offensive and defensive coordinators, plus the TE/?? coach.

Can't think of any college coach in America with more assistants who have experience at the top level. Says a lot that they're all willing to work for him. Makes him a "coaches' coach," imho.

Not a bad job of building up the talent for a dynasty. Butch's recruiting skills aren't confined to the player ranks.

So you are saying he is building" the best staff in America?"

Yep - looks like he's playing us for a pay raise like he has other SEC schools in the past.

May be time to start looking at the next best options - Chizik maybe or Hoke (at least these seem to be the other names mentioned most prominently on VQ this morn).

Im glad our HC doesnt think like you Carl

Its a done deal.

Yes, perhaps I see the problem here:

1) Bob...is going to State College, PA.

2) The Vols basketball team is currently at College Station, TX

3) Similar names but different places.

I understand this but what if a Franklin firing opened up the opportunity for him to get a shot at the head coaching job there?

Don't get me wrong, I hope we land the guy, but if the last 8 years have taught me anything with regards to this stuff, it's not to count on anything.

I believe I saw it mentioned that his son is a walk on WR at PSU?

I wonder what his options will be? I don't know much about walk-ons transferring, but I can imagine JF being a total tool if Shoop bails on him and likely seals his fate as HC.

I was giving them a hard time, I caught myself 3 times yesterday typing College Station

Why would he stay at PSU?

He much prefers the SEC. They lost their QB. They Lost 3 talented players on defense. Only one returning starters on defense. He will get a raise coming here. Offense is garbage and has new OC. PSU’s schedule next year is significantly tougher. Franklins record is going to be worse next year. Likely no bowl game.

As for LSU and Auburn, Only aTm is more unstable in this conference. Those could be or have been one-year positions.

He’s saying goodbye face-to-face to Franklin and his players. Appreciate that.

He’s coming.
Easy... Money

Vols BB team is in Knoxville

Is this place a soap opera or what? I have been hard on Jones for his decision making. But even I am being optimistic here. I believe he will be the DC here and that is coming from someone who lost a lot of faith in the university. So go to another thread and chill out or better yet go have a beer.
