A move to Rocky Top is a step down. Lesser program, lesser job. Easier to recruit given how poor of a school Tennessee is.

Funny. I can no longer hear the words Penn and State together and not be reminded of their scandal. My most vivid memory of their iconic coach is of his statue being removed. They're forever going to be in Big 10 bottom feeder purgatory.

I saw that... But in fairness, there were level headed posters too. Historically I think PSU and UT are very similar programs, but the scandal and ensuing penalties have hurt the football program there.

Shoop has made clear he wants to be a head coach again. If that is his goal, it makes sense for him to come to a place that is right on the cusp of doing big things. If he as DC, and the team as a whole, meet those lofty expectations then we got championship level D from him for 2 years and he got his springboard into a HC gig. If that's the case I'm sure Butch will gladly conduct another DC search.

It's simple, if he can coach the smaller and slower kids to only give up 22 points a game I would think he could cut that number in half or more with our kids size and speed.
