So we are all expecting Shoop to be the next DC. I saw a rumor in the RF that there could be a presser as early as 10 am today. It doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Thus, if we don't hear any hard news through the weekend do we start to worry?

I am thinking that Butch may want to drop the news on Monday given the national title game is that night with hopes that it will be discussed in the pregame shows?

If you remember, coach Jones almost treated the DeBord hire like a dirty little secret. He didn't even publicly announce it until after signing day. He was well aware of public opinion on the hire and opted to downplay it rather than showcase it.

In the case of Shoop, this has a completely different feel. Fans are excited about this and Shoop is a highly sought after D-coordinator. Jones SHOULD hype the hell out this hire! This is a victory for him in terms of personnel upgrade. This hire could even have positive recruiting implications for this class!

Mike DeBord was hired on Feb 5th. About a week later, on Feb 13th, he and Butch held a press conference.*

Good chance we see something similar here. Not to announce Bob Shoop's hire, might be old news by then, but to give him a chance to meet the local press.

Listening to TonyB's show from yesterday, and they are convinced Shoop's been hired, and there is some good nuggets of info being shared:

What I like especially is the mention that Shoop is a great recruiter. Chavis sucked at recruiting, himself. Janzek was probably average at best. Seems like an upgrade all the way around.

I've had a feeling from the moment I heard CJJ fired that this was more than the 3 4th Q collapses. I think Butch is upgrading, yes. But, I've had the suspicion he's looking for a top flight recruiter just as much.

Jones knows that this "15-18th ranked classes" is not going to topple Bama and win the SEC. He needs to be flirting with #1 and stay in the top 5 year after year to realize his dreams. Like it or not Franklin's "staff" did some amazing feats recruiting to a place like Vandy.

I'm loving this hire, not only b/c of the upgrade, but because Butch ain't satisfied to be the new UGA of the East. He's going for it all IMO. And apparently Hart's got out the checkbook and some of that newfound cash to get it done.

This could get good folks.
