Shoop confirmed on campus

I do.

This years offense was much much more capable of playing winning football

Good offense is more than yards. TOs and penalties are huge stats

We were a better team this year, with a better coach, special teams and obviously a better D. 2012 had 9-10 players on O who made NFL training camps. We were a better O in 2012. I don't like admitting it because I despise Bray and Dooley but thats just a fact.

I get that his Ds have ranked higher, but you also have to look at the number of games they face crappy teams and how many teams we faced solid teams. SO even if you look how they played against weak teams compared to ours you won't get the fact that our D may have not brought their best as a way to take a breather while for them it was just another week playing a mediocre/weak team.

I'm not saying Shoop is a bad DC, I honestly don't know, he may be the best DC to ever coach. I'm just saying looking at stats and rankings based on stats won't ever tell the true story. Much how a great O can be held back statistically by a D that can't ever get off the field and allows the other team to milk away most of the clock each game. Or even how that same great O can have its stats cut by a D that always gives it a short field and ST that always gets huge returns so they don't have many yards to work with to build an amazing looking stat sheet.

More flash and more yards doesnt make one better in my mind.

Would love to know the TO differential in the 2 teams

I should say, initially, I felt similarly, that it wasn't that much of an upgrade but when I started looking at the whole body of work, given the places and circumstances...and the types of programs that want this guy...

I changed my tune.

I will gladly dance a jig and say you guys were right if this does indeed turn out to be a home run. I hope it is. I will still be super excited about the program if we do hire shoop just for the reason that for the first time in a long time our ad will actually invest into the team and fans that support them by paying for a high price coordinator. Not just settling. Actually going after a high name and paying up to get him.

Won't rush 3 on 4th and 14. He's an upgrade. Even though I thought JJ did a respectable job and was a good person by all accounts.

I'm not an expert and statistics could prove me wrong, but this seemed like a really crappy year offensively in the SEC. Especially at the QB position. It seemed deep at running back, but we dodged Fournette and basically dodged Chubb. Don't feel like we really faced a clooection of offensive juggernauts this year.

I actually don't think the number of Tds would be a good indicator. 2012 scored a lot based on the fact that the D gave up so much.

7 of the 13 teams we faced this year had a total offense ranked at 99 or worse. And the average ranking of our opposing offenses compared to Penn States was worse. Yet, they had a defense ranked much higher than ours.

I think Hart has learned his lesson by now, considering how the whole Charlie Strong deal fell apart. If he is serious about this hire and this is the guy they want, no way they let him get on that plane without papers signed.

Lol at this from PSU board:

Well, Happy New Year! Let's review Coach Franklin's 2016 thus far:

(1) Lost the Bowl game, yet again showing his inability to beat anybody who's actually good.
(2) Had the star Quarterback publicly embarrass him in his post-game comments.
(3) Lost a top defensive line recruit.
(4) Is on the way to losing the 2nd of his 2 coordinators.

All this in only 181 hours! Coach Franklin's seat is getting warmer and warmer!
