Shoop confirmed on campus

Look, I am excited due to the fact everyone else thinks this is a home run. I am still a little reserved as his body of work does not appear to warrant such optimism. His defense at candy ranked top 20, who did they play. It is not like candy ever schedules top ooc teams, they played in the weakest SEC east in history. And his last two years have been ranked high at penn state, but who do they play. Still excited but a little reserved.

Butch Jones wasn't lying when he said he wanted to win an National Championship. He knew Shoops was the missing piece to having the best staff in America. Butch continues to impress me.

I'm pretty much a sunshine pumper, half full glass, but if taken literally that's a reach.

It sounds trendy in a coach speak kinda way but what standards are you using.

On the other hand, I agreee with the gist of what you're saying and I freakin' LOVE what seems to be very proactive moves on CBJ/AD's part. If this is true, matched w/ the CLS hire...omg, I'm giddy. I've waited a long time to have the confidence in the program that I have now.

2016 GBO!!! :yahoo::yahoo:

This would clearly be an upgrade on paper.

What we don't know is how it will translate on the field. We don't know how the players will respond and more importantly we don't know how shoop will work under cbj.

We had a good thing going with CJJ and we are swinging for the fences here but it isn't without some risk in the transition

I asn't sure about letting Jancek walk, but CBJ earned my respect a bit more with his last 2 hires. I hated the Debord hire but I think it will prove solid, and luring Scott here. It appears that he ain't playing.

Maybe I am ignorant but what dies his resume even look like? I don't feel this is an upgrade

This spreadsheet is the PSU and Tenn Defensive comparison

At Vandy Shoop's defense in 2012 ranked among the nation's best in several key statistics: 14th in pass defense, 15th in scoring defense and 19th in total defense. In 2011 his defense ranked ninth in the NCAA in pass defense efficiency and 18th in total defense and his total defense was ranked 23rd in 2013

That was probably because of all that killer talent he had at Vandy tho

Actually the scariest candy defense we faced the last serverAl years was this year. He seems like a solid hire and apparently the college football world holds him in high regard, but what I read about his body of work and the candy defense he had was not as impressive as the amount this board is making it out to be. Like I said, I don't know much about him so maybe it will be the home run all on here are making it out to be.

I disagree, their defense in 2012 ranked #19, holding teams to an average of 18.7 points (#15 nationally), we were averaging twice that many with Chaney/Bray and Co. They held us to 18 points, Bray threw 2 picks, Worley threw one, we had 154 yards passing and 149 rushing.

It was just the second year there, so while there may have been a few better players than the average Vandy team, they would have been young.

Again, one can look at the numbers and say, "well, it's only slightly better than what Jancek did this year." You have to think about where that guy has been and the circumstances and project what he might be able to do with a bunch of top flight athletes...that's what I think anyway. There's a reason Auburn and LSU wanted this guy.

Solid post.

Ryan Callahan said that adding Shoop may give Tennessee a renewed shot at flipping Joejuan Williams. He likes Shoop a lot.

Can someone re link the flight aware, would be interested to see when the plane left/ leaves back for happy valley.

If you think our offense was better this year than in 2012 then you're on drugs.

Accidentally liked this. Meant to reply.

I also remember bray mailing it in to avoid going to a crappy bowl game. Not sure if it was that year. We also lost to them once when we had multiple injuries. Just saying.

Bret Bielema? :)

I can't confirm anything that Bielema posts...he blocked me after I asked Memphis if they had restocked all the beer and BBQ he consumed at the Liberty Bowl

You are blocked from following @BretBielema and viewing @BretBielema's Tweets

His Defense gets sacks and creates turnovers. I think we only had 15 takeaways this past year. No doubt that will improve! Go Vols!!

I should say, initially, I felt similarly, that it wasn't that much of an upgrade but when I started looking at the whole body of work, given the places and circumstances...and the types of programs that want this guy...

I changed my tune.

I didn't think he was going to be able to get in because of grades?

That can't be true because he's getting into Vandy.

In the end, Shoop has had highly ranked defenses with Vandy talent and PSU recruiting during sanctions.
I may not call him a guru but not sure why you are downplaying such an accomplishment.
