Shoop confirmed on campus

Maybe I am ignorant but what dies his resume even look like? I don't feel this is an upgrade

Shoop was selected the 247Sports Defensive Coordinator of the Year in 2014 after directing a unit that allowed just 278.7 yards per game, good for No. 2 in FBS and the Nittany Lions’ second-lowest average since 1990.

He has coordinated units that have finished in the Top 25 nationally in total defense in each of the last four years.

Actually I think it's 5 including this year. (#14)

There are a lot of other stats and players that made it to the NFL etc...

But, the fact that he did this with little talent at Vandy and with scholarship limitations at PSU is probably the most significant thing on his resume...He turned down LSU and Auburn the last two years as well.

It's a definite upgrade and I liked Jancek BTW.

He had Vandy consistently in the top 20 for defense statistics.

LSU and Auburn both wanted him bad. That stone should tell you something.

you are incorrect. Use the google. Also, look at Vandy's defense 2011-2013. Look at PSU's defense 2014-15.

Actually the scariest candy defense we faced the last serverAl years was this year. He seems like a solid hire and apparently the college football world holds him in high regard, but what I read about his body of work and the candy defense he had was not as impressive as the amount this board is making it out to be. Like I said, I don't know much about him so maybe it will be the home run all on here are making it out to be.

Butch Jones wasn't lying when he said he wanted to win an National Championship. He knew Shoops was the missing piece to having the best staff in America. Butch continues to impress me.

Lazy much?? Google is your friend or just skim thru a few of these threads.

I heard this same response to the same question, there isn't a whole lot on him on google other than the non factual wiki page and his work with candy and penn state. Is that all he has to be judged on?

I remember tearing up this year's Vandy defense

You could look on espn.com, Penn State's webpage, other media reports from when Auburn and LSU tried to hire him, actual statistics, etc

I'm seriously itching for some news one way or the other. I've been lurking all day for any glimmer of hope.

Exactly. And it was a better defense than the shoop defense. Our offense just sucked worse back then.

That offense with Bray, Hunter, Da'Rick?
What did Vandy's defense do this year that was more impressive than Shoop's Vandy D that, I don't know, won 10 games and was in top 25?

This would clearly be an upgrade on paper.

What we don't know is how it will translate on the field. We don't know how the players will respond and more importantly we don't know how shoop will work under cbj.

We had a good thing going with CJJ and we are swinging for the fences here but it isn't without some risk in the transition
