My story goes like this "'CBJ was hired right after we let CPF go..." Any other story is revisionist history
How I remember it:
Old Fulmer grew very weary one cold autumn day and lay down to rest on a stack of pachyderm skins and he rested his head on his pillows stuffed with plucked gamecock feathers.
His young apprentice, who was in one corner of the Vol domicile studying tape of Condredge Holloway saw that the old master was weary and quickly came to his side.
"Master," he said "I have seen the Dread Hamilton rampaging in the countryside. If you are too weary to rise, he will surely destroy all that you have built here and he will turn open our gates to Kiffin the Wicked and let Dooley the Isidious burn all the bridges leading into Volnation from the recruiting lands."
At this, Fulmer raised his weary head and spoke to his young apprentice. "Go, my young Butch, and recruit unto Volnation a QB that can fly airplanes and run the football in a modern spread-option offense. Protect my legacy and make our enemies tremble with fear again."
At this, Butch took an old pair of metal cleats from the corner and sharpened the metal until he could cut away his long black hair. Before long a pristine flat top crowned his head. He then flew quickly to Georgia as his master slept to receive the commitment of the young squire Dobbs. The Dread Hamilton retreated deep into the woods and was never seen again.
And all Volnation lived happily ever after . . .
