I'm hoping Guarantano gets a lot of playing time against Indiana St.It is hard to be critical of a win. However, I am much less excited about the year after seeing this game. First of all, I know one defensive back that would never see the field again if I were the coach. Actually, I would probably consider pulling a scholly. Now, it is most difficult to stop that offensive completely. After watching the game, (I considered going to bed at halftime) MY MAIN CONCERN IS LOSING GURANTANO (SP) AS QUARTERBACK. I could tell the look on his face was that of disgust. He should have been given a chance to play. Will we ever know now if he can play ?? Doubtful ! The most impressive player in the game was the receiver with the dread locks. Super ! If we do not improve drastically on defensive, the year will be long and hurtful. Our defensive line was pushed all over the field. Sad !
Shoop is not the answer. Until I don't see Bambi on the field I believe he is the worst judge of talent ever.
No push up front by Hoke's DL. All i saw was guys getting blown off the ball 3 yards all night. They physically whooped our defense. Not the best team or offense we're going to play..
Shoop isn't the problem. It's the talent or lack thereof he has to work with. Let's be blunt....we have several prospects on defense that were vastly over rated by the services. Mac should be a backup OG. Jumper has all the heart in the world but he belongs at a low D1 or D2 program. I've seen Ivy League LB wth more talent. Kongbo....the second coming of Ted Hendrix....well....I watched a future engineer push him around most of the night. Some guys are players. Some guys are hype. Bama has more or the former. We lead the league in the latter. This defense is challenged in so many ways. The real players are hopefully among the younger kids on the roster. Until they're ready, we have to depend on the upper class kids and that means we are going to have some long, hard saturdays. The D line is awful and soft. We need Tuttle and a few more like him plus 4 or 5 more tough linebackers. Sadly we have to wait for another recruiting class or two. We need the offense to come around and quick...especially at QB. Also need to really, really focus on winning special teams in a very big way every Saturday.

His defense just gave up 650+ yards....after allowing 600+ to Vandy last year....and 700+ to Missouri last year.....and 600+ to Kentucky last year....and nearly 600 to Alabama last year....and 600 to TAM last year.
What more do we need to see?
Lack of talent? Over rated by the services? Most of these guys on D were 4* and highly recruited by other SEC schools. We got pushed around by Appy St., Ohio and VA Tech last year...and that's before the injuries set in. Thank goodness VA Tech fumbled FIVE times. Shoop is a big problem. These guys are not getting developed, period. The stats don't lie. EVERYONE is putting up 500 and 600 yds of offense on us. Shoop didn't even want Bituli playing last night had Kirkland been healthy. He would rather have Jumper. What does that tell you? He doesn't know what he has and doesn't have.
I noticed the Dline was lining up 2 yards back from the LOS . not sure what was going on there . also did Sapp play? Jumper and Bates shouldn't see the field . McDowell bituli Sapp and ignont have to be better .

Well.. we've found the problem. We have a math geek pretending to be a DC. Bob Poop's defense has gave up about 3000 yards in the last 5 games or so. Doesn't seem to be getting any better. I think he may be going for a record or something. That D was better then the volnation experts make you think. Watch it again. Shoops D is like a fish net. The closer you get to the goal the smaller it becomes. If you want to go after HOKE it's still debatable but shoops D is a mind bender. It's calculus in action.
Too soon.
I'm no Shoop advocate at this point by any means but let's get a few more games under us before we hang him out to dry.
Im growing tired of the excuse "he wasn't able to hire his own staff' excuse. Did Jeremy Pruitt hire his own staff at Alabama? Hell no! Does any DC hire all of his own people? I doubt it unless its a Bud Foster-type situation. And Shoop is no Bud Foster.

The head coach has to consider a lot of things when hiring staff. Recruiting ability is one of them. The defensive staff appears to be better recruiters than the previous staff. Talent evaluation is questionable thou when i see a justin martin out there. Shoop better worry about keeping his job than getting his cronies a job. 1 season and 1 game thus far he's proven to talk a big game and deliver very little.
Regarding jumper. He's far from the biggest problem. Yes he gets beat outside a lot last night but linebackers who make those plays are special and tennessee don't have a special lb right now and didn't before kirkland was injured. Jrm was one of those but that is it. The olb, des and safeties should have been around the play also and most were not there.
On the bright side, bituli and taylor appeared to be special players.
