“Like I’ve said, this is such a unique transition for me,” Shoop told VolQuest.com. “It’s not like coming into a team that went 0-and-12 last year and gave up 500 yards a game. You look at it and say, ‘I want to put my own stamp on it, however I don’t want to take a step back.’

“Because Team 120 has a chance to compete at the highest level.”

If the Tennessee defense helps the program stride forward and perhaps to its first SEC Championship game appearance in a decade, Shoop’s two-part approach may be the key.

Players have raved about both Shoop’s teaching ability and his ‘ship’ mentality: championships and relationships.

Good good good. Each contributes his share of bricks to the program -- sounds like Shoop is bringing his in by cargo ship.

If his defensive leadership is truly the main cause of the successes at his last two stops, then watch out folks. This season could get ridiculous.

Honestly, I've been part of the band of ruffians snickering at Butchs' "BSIA" comments. But, when you look at how he's upgrading staff as we grow, then I think I'm gonna start getting more neutral on that going forward. In time I hope to join the chorus making fun of all those who made fun of Butch. :-D

My question about Shoop. Is this the most talent he has had to work with?
If you look at his coaching history, a very strong case could be made this is true. I would enjoy hearing his views about that to confirm yea or nay.

I hope he knows how to teach tackling especially the part that addresses wrapping up the legs instead of just throwing the body at a moving target.
