Severe Weather Thread

I remember you saying that you had moved to Oklahoma. What part of Oklahoma? I would be worried all the time about tornados.

I'm about a mile across the arkansas state line. I'm in tornado alley but over the last few years the storms seem to be developing further east of us. We are having a shelter put in next spring if we don't move to tennessee next spring.

Smart. Never been involved in a tornado situation and hope I never am.

Had one go right over my head. Was on the ground, lifted up over me, then touchdown again. Wicked thing to see.

Back in Feb 2009 the night when a tornado hit Union University off the 45 bypass I was standing at my backdoor. I heard all this breaking & crashing of trees & didn't know what it was. Then all a sudden there's this white funnel that comes roaring through the trees about what seemed to be a football field away from my house. It hit a Walgreens & a retirement complex on N.Highland & then skipped a couple 100 feet to only come down again on a small neighborhood. It's a wonder nobody was killed from that. But that's the only time I ever saw one.

Don't think I could live in that part of the country without a storm shelter. That being said, if you move to East Tennessee especially you would not need a storm shelter. Where I live is protected by the plateau so whatever storm system develops west of us gets busted up the plateau. We've been really lucky for the most part. We've had a few storms that produced small(EF-0 or EF-1) tornadoes but they didn't come close to us.

We had an EF-3 just up the road from Knoxville a few months ago, and an EF-4 in the Smokies a couple years back. We've been lucky, cause that stuff can get us too.

Having a nice little system moving thru tonight.

Heat lightning/intracloud lightning is amazing right now. Beautiful

The Plateau doesn't do much for storms that come from the south. Still remember 2011.

True. The Plateau does its best when storms coming from the due West or Northwest. I remember those 2011storms because there were 2 small tornadoes that touched down about 10 miles away from me in Knox County. All we got was a lot of pea size hail where as others got golfball size hail. Very fortunate there.

Yeah, worst thing that happened is one of our friends had a tree fall on their house. Everyone's ok so that's all that really matters.

Bermuda is fixng to get hammered by Hurricane Gonzalo. It's weakened to a Cat.3 but still very powerful hurricane. Prayers go out to those people.

You ok?

I saw where you guys had a tornado or two.

Warnings were also in north west arkansas.
(Vol_in_Ar area)

It's headed our way

The worst of it's gone around me for the moment. Other areas are getting slammed by the winds and golf ball hail.

My friend says it's bad about ten miles south of me. He's got his family in the shelter just in case. But no tornadoes for the moment.
