Serious Question? / Honest Opinion

How many of you are concerned with our coaching staff right now? I'm not trying to trigger anyone, but I was concerned after the Oklahoma game when Josh didn't know the clock rules, this was over half way through the season and cost us any hope of a CFP appearance, obviously there were other things that game that cost us, but it's absurd a head coach who coaches offensive would not know the clock rules.

Now he seems not to understand portal players are just as important as highschool players, and more important in some positions due to having experience already. This is not even about money or talent, you don't have time to invest in recruiting 3 star highschool players who wont see the field for 3 years, if you want 3 star players go get portal players who already have playing time, I really don't understand, and my honest opinion is Josh has check out mentally, he is not thinking but just going through the motions, and I don't know why.
No concern what so ever, Banks was the problem last year and I believe Knowles will bring in enough quality guys to build a good defense. They know a great deal more than the simple fan.

From what it’s looking like, those people saying it would take 3-4 years for his defense to succeed, are right

First off, wasn't that a new rule for this season?...I mean yeah he missed it, but when's the last time you did your own taxes and hit every rule change?...These small rules in college ball change as fast and as much as the tax laws.

Second, blaming that Oklahoma loss on the runner not getting a first down, Heupel not taking a time out to stop the clock, some other way to stop the clock, or a kicker missing a FG is absurd.
That game was lost in many, many ways. If the D would have made just one of those 3rd and long stops, it would be a different outcome.
If the offense doesn't commit at least one of those false start penalties, we get a first down and keep a drive alive, and see a different outcome.

Blaming the OU loss on CJH not knowing in the heat of the moment that the runner didn't make the 1st down, the clock wasn't at 2:00, and would keep running is just crazy talk.

I’m hoping with the personal Knowles has brought with him that know about his system we could get that down to 2-3 years. With the way players hit the portal, not many may be around long enough to learn the defense. We were ranked at #90 in total defense this year, surely any product put on the field in 2026 would cut that by half, had we been ranked near #45 this year we would have been in the playoffs. Defensive needs in the portal this year are important to meet, but so far Indiana has proven you dont need a bunch of 5 stars to get close to a championship, maybe win it all. They have 0 5 stars.

There is very good chance we go 7-5 or 6-6 next season and Heupel gets fired
I think your win projection may be close, but as long as those seats are full and we’re staying bowl eligible, Heup will be here. They are happy with mediocrity and so are many of the fans.

Apples and oranges. He’s a head coach. YOU may let some tax laws slip by, understandably. But if you’re paying your accountant to do your taxes do you expect him to know the rules of his profession? I’d imagine so.

Not concerned at all now that we seemed to have made the changes that were glaring. Now, I'm going to see what happens and hope for the best.

I'm sure some of you will see this rational take as sunshine pumping or orange colored glasses, but defense has been the primary issue. Now, let's see what happens.

I agree with most of your post but Saban left for one reason. Competing on a level playing field is not a recipe for success for Nicolas. Remember the time he picked Culpeper over Brees? Saban was not going to be successful in this new era of college football. Remember the tantrum he had when Texas A&M signed a better class than him? He tried to brush off the fact that Bryce was making over 1 million a year by saying he got that deal after he was already enrolled in school. STFU Nick.
Saban wanted Brees, but he failed the physical and Miami wouldn't let him take him.. Saban has said if he could have kept Brees he probably would have never gone back to college game.

You are correct but all the things you listed that caused us to lose that game fall
On the shoulders of the head coach as well. Kicker missed field goal, had he already missed some before? Did heupel hand pick said kicker? Did heupel have another kicker to go to?
Exactly and not saying it doesn't - just saying to OP's original post that the one error in clock wasn't the entire reason he lost that game.

His downfall will be if he can't get a play caller. So he has to get over himself . You cant do two jobs
Cignetti calls plays, Christobol calls plays, Lanning calls the D plays, Kiffin called plays and those teams are in the CFP.

You can, apparently, be a head coach and call plays and be successful.

I'm more concerned with how toxic our fanbase is. Do you think that has a bearing on players not coming here?

This isn't the dumbest thread currently on the board but y'all better hope the dumbest one doesn't get deleted. The Vols were in every game they played this year and lost to 3 play off teams and another one that should have been in the playoffs. Recruiting is at an all time high and there is plenty of great young talent in the program. The future is bright and the Vols are on the right track. It's comical to read and listen to a bunch of folks who never competed for anything in their lives second guess a respected coaching staff.

In today's NCAA there is going to be a lot parity. Good teams will win 8-10 games every year and occasionally have a championship caliber team and maybe a 6 or 7 win season. But, most of y'all demanding championship teams every year are either struggling to hold a 2.5 GPA or working at a job wearing a shirt with you name stitched above the pocket. Stop embarrassing Vol Nation with your chicken little rants.

He said that many years after the fact. Nick Saban nearly destroyed the Miami Dolphins

I'm not concerned. I'm completely confident in CJH 's ability to get the offense to score enough points to win against anyone. He's had 0 stability at QB. We've had portal losses every year. We've had locker room cancers. We've had injuries. And despite it all, he wins and even has the 2nd highest scoring offense averaging over the last 5 years (Ohio State was #1). . Our weakness has been the D. And I think he made as good a choice as there was available with the DC hire. Our D was bottom of the barrel. We punched below our weight. I can't see us getting worse. I feel like we can go from a bottom 1/3 defense to a top 25-30 defense in one year. That alone will allow us to be as good as we were this year and likely a bit better overall. We're recruiting well. Looks like he's embracing the portal as well. He is learning from his mistakes.

I will bet whatever you want. Oh your uncle hub? Well my wife’s brother is a big time booster and he said the opposite. Just stop with the BS. Oh the big money people are upset but those same big money people won’t pony up the cash to buy the roster we need.

Bookmark it now. If we go 6-6, Heupel is our coach in 2027.
