Serious ? about IF Butch were fired.

Mike had Kiffin locked up in mid-October... of course it wasn't public because he had not fired Fulmer yet. Why I said he used Kiffin to get booster buyin to pull the trigger on Fulmer. Seriously don't believe it happens if not for that..

So, the public solicitation of top performing college HCs was just a smoke screen? The wait to announce Kiffin's hire was dramatic build-up?

Kiffin was an assistant at USCw before Al Davis's head-scratcher hire made him HC of the Raiders for a season. This guy was who Hamilton sold to boosters prior to showing Fulmer the door?

Hamilton had a honey tongue. He could wrest money from a miser. Still, such a snow job defies belief.

I may misunderstand your post, but I don't think Majors situation was better than Butch, it may have been worse. Battle was a worse recruiter than Dooley and you had the Bear signing about 150 kids every year.

Majors got time because he was one of us and he'd just won a Natty at Pitt. Butch aint one of us and he hasn't won jack.

You are confused. Battle wasn't as good a recruiter as UT's PTBs thought when they handed him the reigns, but to claim that Battle was a worse recruiter than Dooley and left the Vols in worse shape than Dooley did is ludicrous lazy bias. I was attending UT when Majors replaced Battle. I have first hand experience of what I speak.

If worse comes to worse, Art Briles is still unemployed.
And could probably be had without breaking the bank.

Briles won't be considered even under the most desperate circumstances. We have a glut of overpaid lawyers in Knoxville already, why double that with a bunch of Title IX experts?

Before that is considered an option, I think they rehire Fulmer. And if that happens, everybody finds out why that great idea......wasn't great at all.

Bingo. The hard part is finding a coach that can get us to the promised land...... Winning a NC.

All thie discussions about what we want has gone off the rails.

We want and expect NCs. It's that simple.

This is a reload year due to the QB change, the expectations don't go away due to a new QB, it just puts more on the coaching.

Have they done their job training the guys for 121?

I like our chances.

Put it together Butch.
It's funny these are our goals and expectations. We have won two in our football history. Meaning we are not bama, we are Tennessee. As soon as people realize our history then a coach can be given a chance. I'm not saying I don't want to win one, but to expect us to have a coach that just wins natties is not realistic. I believe butch has righted the ship and our expectations have risen with him st the helm. I'm ok letting him keep building what he has started.

I stand corrected.

You seem to want to lower the bar during the building process to coddle our HC.

That's not the answer.

Our HC needs to have a sense of urgency that motivates him to lay it all on the line to win now and to be able to relay that mindset to his coaches and players.

Who all is to blame for AK easing out of bounds against Vandy on 4th down? So many. That lack of focus cost us at least 3 games last year and chances to play even more games.

Don't lower the bar. If CBJ thinks just because we sent our QB to the NFL and has an untested QB running our offense that he should expect some slack this year, he won't get it from me. QD is in year 3.

Get it done Butch!

I like what you've done here,I get it.

I've said it several times, but I foresee a 7-5 season that will probably include another head scratching loss or two. However, I think UT would be better off hanging onto Jones until a realistic, superior option comes available. And when I say available, I mean already standing behind the curtain waiting to give his introductory press conference while Butch is still cleaning out his office.

Jones is not a great coach, but I have no faith whatsoever in this group running things to conduct an actual coaching search. At least not a successful one.

Do other fan bases constantly talk about their coach getting fired? Serious question

When he enters his 5th season on the hot seat after a very disappointing previous season as a unanimous/prohibitive favorite to win his division/play in the SEC Championship game? I'd guess probably yes.

There have been threads like this every year both during the season and off-season. Hot seat would imply he's on the verge of getting fired. There is virtually no chance he's let go after next year

Yes. Bama fans we're questioning if Saban had lost it a few years ago. Lol. Butch definitely should have some criticism especially for the Vanderbilt loss but idk if it's time to look at a replacement especially since whoever we get will likely be more questionable than Butch.

1. It's a very popular fan forum, message board....lots of different thoughts and opinions, bound to be a few outliers pushing or questioning that sort of thing

2. Virtually no one was discussing his potential firing prior to last year (or prior to the season before) as we went into the season as an overwhelming favorite to play in the SECCG.

3. After last year's disappointing season, with a new AD in town, it's a legit topic for discussion.

4. Whether or not it's virtually a lock he's here for the 2018 season depends on a handful of factors, the biggest one being what happens in 2017. I too am inclined to believe he's here in 2018, but if it all goes to hell in a hand basket this year and there's a proven winning head coach on the market that Currie really likes, all bets are off imho.

Few think CBJ is on the verge of getting fired... but if UT has another disappointing year, who's to say there wouldn't be a mutual parting of the ways? The unknowns are what does Currie consider to be a disappointing year and how tolerant will he be? When a new AD goes on record about expecting to win championships and points out how long it has been since that goal has been achieved, you have to believe he's going to be results-oriented.

if butch gets fired, break open the bank vault and hire chip kelly---he'll take a job for the right money. It will take huge cash, at least $8-$10 million / year plus a boatload of benefits---it will be worth it.

If that were to happen I think we would be in the same boat that Arkansas is in right now headed toward what Notre Dame had to pay out over the last decade.

I don't think he's on the verge of getting fired either-at least not this season.

However, even if there were a mutual parting of ways, I don't see another major 5 picking him up. On that same token, who could we get that would be better that would actually cone?

zero chance Tennessee pays anyone 8-10 million a year to come here
