Serious ? about IF Butch were fired.

#15 overall and #7 in the SEC the past two years. How is that "top"?

Jones blew his best chance to win the East. There were injuries, but not bad enough to justify losses to 7-5 USC and 6-6 VU. He could be working 24/7 and it wouldn't matter. This is a results-based game, not an effort-based game.

CBJ said it was top, so its top. What really happened was irrelevant.

Bingo. The hard part is finding a coach that can get us to the promised land...... Winning a NC.

All thie discussions about what we want has gone off the rails.

We want and expect NCs. It's that simple.

This is a reload year due to the QB change, the expectations don't go away due to a new QB, it just puts more on the coaching.

Have they done their job training the guys for 121?

I like our chances.

Put it together Butch.
How the expectations can be national championships when we've won one in the last 65 years or so is beyond me. Why don't we try getting to an SEC championship game every now and then before we expect national championships.

Recruiting class.

Speaking of recruiting - what is up with Alabama for 2018. do they normally start this far behind?

And look at Richt at UM - but of course he had very good classes at Georgia as well.

To clarify Alabama is 11th out of 14th at this point. I know it is early but 2018 is not that far away.

Wouldn't hold my breath on that one. History sucks.

This is Johnny Majors record while at Tennessee. Give it a look. This guy won a NC and 3 SEC titles. Compare those first 4 years here to Butch's. Go ahead. Now, I wasn't around in 77, but you can't tell me he came into a situation a whole lot worse than Butch did.

Quit being moronic and wanting this guy fired.

Good post. Major's situation was at least 2 recruiting years better than CBJ. CPF's was 3 or more. That is a point that isn't understood, appreciated, or welcomed by many posters.

As is the point that the SEC East is comparable to the American Athletic Conference right now. Times have changed. Recruiting has changed. Trying to compare Major's years to Butch's is impossible due to the many moving parts.

I may misunderstand your post, but I don't think Majors situation was better than Butch, it may have been worse. Battle was a worse recruiter than Dooley and you had the Bear signing about 150 kids every year.

Majors got time because he was one of us and he'd just won a Natty at Pitt. Butch aint one of us and he hasn't won jack.

There's absolutely nothing up with Alabama's recruiting. We all know where they'll finish when it matters next February. Very little about recruiting classes much matters in May.

So you are saying that it is normal for a team that got 6 of the top 32 in 2017 to not have any commitments or be the projected leader for any of the top 32 in 2018 at this time of the year?

I'm not so sure.

You'd think our fan base understood this after last year. Higgins, Johnson, Cotman, Nixon, and Gaddy were going to push us into a top 10 class in 2017. We have a serious issue with closing the deal and a big part of it is based on what happens when these prospects watch us on Saturdays.

I'm telling you that in May it doesn't matter and come next February they'll be top 2-3 if not the #1 recruiting class in the country.

Will Tennessee be satisfied with hiring an assistant off the Bama staff, promote a current Vol assistant or hiring the Colorado State head coach?

That's exactly who Georgia, LSU and Florida have recently hired.

It's too early to talk about who we'd hire. We're getting ready to start a season where anything could happen. If Currie decides to fire CBJ in the future, I'm sure he'll look at the best coaches available at that point in time.

We'll have an excellent idea how this season is going to go by the end of September.

Once all their 4 stars get the bama bump, they should rank right up there. Just a hunch, alabama is not too concerned about recruiting.

In almost every thread that a losing or even 8-5 season should get Butch fired. I was just wondering about the economics of it happening. The buy out would be huge and a new coach of the caliber wanted would cost closer to 5 million than 4. Just asking. It's the off season and I need something to read.

I don't think Jones gets fired for 8 wins. If Vandy accounts for one of those losses it could get interesting, though.

Just remember what Georgia did to CMR!

Fan bases get tired of mediocre. Especially if they know they deserve better!

True. Still waiting to see how that's going to work out for Georgia. I think the trouble arises when fans, and more importantly, the administration, realize the program is stagnant or regressing. It's hard to deny that, at this point, the program is headed in the right direction. However, Jones needs a splash season soon (10 or more wins) to prove his worth imo.

And I don't give a rip if they finish last. It will take multiple down recruiting years to derail that machine. Maybe Saban is taking a sabbatical this year?!?

Saban could literally not recruit anyone this year and still have more talented depth than any team in the SEC. Bama is just that good.
