Secret Negas

Me: The improvement has been tied to factors which will no longer apply (at least not to this extent) going forward.
You: HAHA Build a team you're dumb!

What your crying about makes no sense! He's done exactly what one should expect in a rebuild.

Watch his early pressers. He spoke about it extensively. And he actually started someone not named Hurts. But hey, don't let facts bug you.

I just asked the question. Didn't say it was a right or wrong thing to do. Go back to your other soap opera, you have your hands full there.

Look Jr, just because you got to sit at the grown up table this year don't get cocky.
Now go play with you pretend friend.

I'm not the one coming to a message board acting all high and mighty trying to impress people and gain some level of credibility. That's you, you're a complete joke.

The Butch debate is pointless but here is my take. In my opinion he a shown a lack of game management. His use of timeouts, knowing when or when not to go for two, and other in game situations is his problem. Those issues have nothing to do with the number of injuries weve had. Its like the stage is just too big for him at times. To his credit, he has proven to be a decent recruiter. Im still rooting for Butch to be the man that takes us to the next level but in my honest opinion he aint going to. Seems to me, at this point in time, Butch needs better players than everybody hes going to beat and sometimes that aint going to be enough. Just an opinion. Your entitled to your own.

Go Vols and good luck Butch, im still rooting for ya.

"well at least he ain't. Dooley"....imo

It's negative to have Dooley as the measuring stick

Dooley was the worst in history. Fans are still so glad to have "Not Him". He is the low water mark. Everybody knows it, some of us it never crossed our mind that we would have to endure such poorly executed football. Well it happened and I for one am glad we are past that and I sure don't want a repeat.

8-4 regular season is now the low water mark. If you do worse, expect to be fired. I don't want to know what happened for us to lose 5, there are only 4 toss ups(that's counting bama) on the schedule.

Butch," you got some 'plaining to do". In Ricky's voice to Lucy.

Get it together Butch!

8-4 was a disappointment then and is now for me....in yr 4. My standard is what I saw in mid to late 90s.

Lol. And just what exactly do you think your entire post is??

Answer....A regurgitated argument.

But I'm not blaming VN, or fans, for all our woes. Perhaps you missed that point. Some posters talk about VN as if it is the source of all evil, yet continue to post here. I call that hypocrisy.

No one questions your fanhood, just your rationality

Is expecting a coach paid millions of dollars a year to improve his team and beat opponents he should irrational? I don't know.....seems rational to me.

You must not spend anytime in the politics forum. I've seen military service questioned.

Not so much. I admit I was referring to a specific exchange, it didn't happen and there were claims it had.

It's a shame it goes on in the politics forum.

Maybe you should take a look at the way you start the third sentence in this post. Since you started it by saying Should butch, you are admitting you don't know whether he will fail or not and neither does anyone else on here. In the meantime why not support the team you say you love instead of whining after every game about some portion of the game, I think that is what a fan is supposed to do!

After that why don't you ask yourself, did I really need to initiate another thread for this subject?

I'm not anti-Butch. If he can make the necessary changes and improvements, I'll support him, but as of yet, he hasn't demonstrated the willingness to do that, IMO. As for supporting the team, I always support the team. A coach is not the team. I understand many confuse the two, but a coach is simply that, a coach.

And yes, I felt the need to start a thread from the other perspective since several have popped up hailing Butch as the end all, be all. Apparently, I've touched quite a few nerves. Notice, instead of trying for rational discussion, the first instinct is to either support or attack. Not very much middle ground.

You mock regurgitating while regurgitating and pit fans against each other by labeling. Some want Butch to succeed, thus the team and program. He is the best guy we've had in a long time.

It is foolish to think that not only the number but who we lost was devastating, especially on defense. Just because some don't want to acknowledge that doesn't make it fact.

Injuries were significant, but where were the back ups? Where was Quay Picou? Where was Alexis Johnson?(and please don't blame the off-season incident for his absence late in the season) When LBs went down, where was Gavin Bryant? Where was Dillon Bates? All are scholarship players. Most have been in the system multiple years. So, are we missing on that many evaluations, or are they just not being coached up?

Being a Tennessee fan has taught me not to put all my eggs in any coach's basket. When Kiffin came here, he was hailed as the next great UT coach. When Dooley arrived, his lineage had fans proclaiming him the next great coach. Now we have Butch. He absolutely deserves credit for taking over a program in shambles and restoring order. My only question, is he the coach to lead us to championships? It's not like I'm advocating firing him, but I'm for tempering expectations and accepting he may or may not be that coach. And if he's not that coach, then fans need to remember, a coach is not the team. We all want the Vols to win. We want success. Time will tell if Butch is the right coach, but I'm not just going to assume he is.

This is on point but no need to temper expectations. Like you said he ether will or he won't, might as well expect it.

Go Vols!

You are correct that he may or may not be "the one", but he has obviously changed the face of the program in a positive way. I don't look at CBJ as a long term savior of UT football, but I'd be damn happy if he was. I knew Kiffin and Dooley didn't care about UT, but I still wanted them to win. At least I am confident that Butch genuinely cares. While he is here I will support him and pull for his success.
