"well at least he ain't. Dooley"....imo
It's negative to have Dooley as the measuring stick
Dooley was the worst in history. Fans are still so glad to have "Not Him". He is the low water mark. Everybody knows it, some of us it never crossed our mind that we would have to endure such poorly executed football. Well it happened and I for one am glad we are past that and I sure don't want a repeat.
8-4 regular season is now the low water mark. If you do worse, expect to be fired. I don't want to know what happened for us to lose 5, there are only 4 toss ups(that's counting bama) on the schedule.
Butch," you got some 'plaining to do". In Ricky's voice to Lucy.
Get it together Butch!
Maybe you should take a look at the way you start the third sentence in this post. Since you started it by saying Should butch, you are admitting you don't know whether he will fail or not and neither does anyone else on here. In the meantime why not support the team you say you love instead of whining after every game about some portion of the game, I think that is what a fan is supposed to do!
After that why don't you ask yourself, did I really need to initiate another thread for this subject?
I'm not anti-Butch. If he can make the necessary changes and improvements, I'll support him, but as of yet, he hasn't demonstrated the willingness to do that, IMO. As for supporting the team, I always support the team. A coach is not the team. I understand many confuse the two, but a coach is simply that, a coach.
And yes, I felt the need to start a thread from the other perspective since several have popped up hailing Butch as the end all, be all. Apparently, I've touched quite a few nerves. Notice, instead of trying for rational discussion, the first instinct is to either support or attack. Not very much middle ground.
It is foolish to think that not only the number but who we lost was devastating, especially on defense. Just because some don't want to acknowledge that doesn't make it fact.
You mock regurgitating while regurgitating and pit fans against each other by labeling. Some want Butch to succeed, thus the team and program. He is the best guy we've had in a long time.
Being a Tennessee fan has taught me not to put all my eggs in any coach's basket. When Kiffin came here, he was hailed as the next great UT coach. When Dooley arrived, his lineage had fans proclaiming him the next great coach. Now we have Butch. He absolutely deserves credit for taking over a program in shambles and restoring order. My only question, is he the coach to lead us to championships? It's not like I'm advocating firing him, but I'm for tempering expectations and accepting he may or may not be that coach. And if he's not that coach, then fans need to remember, a coach is not the team. We all want the Vols to win. We want success. Time will tell if Butch is the right coach, but I'm not just going to assume he is.
