SECE pecking order after week 1

UGA's defense looked solid. Although UNC's QB play looked underwhelming. We need to see how their offense will function against a team that didn't finish 121st in rushing defense.

They shut down Elijah Hood for the most part which isn't an easy task.

UGA - Chubb looked 100%, which means Smart can probably go with Eason at QB knowing the freshman won't need to carry the offense.

UT/UF - both sort of sleepwalked through their opener.

UK - Can score pts., at least in first half, but D is atrocious. Fortunately for them, Vandy, Mizzou, and SC don't have good enough offenses to exploit that, although if I was Muschamp I would start that freshman DT QB because the UK D is especially awful against running QBs.

Vandy - I put them above Mizzou only because they have a Ralph Webb at RB.

Mizzou - just bad. Nothing else to say.

Look at everyone on UGA jock after they beat a team that gave up 1000 yards rushing to their last TWO opponents last year. Pathetic.

It's a week one rsnking. UGA covered its spread. UT and UF did not. On top of that, neither UT or UF looked good on offense, so I have no problem giving the nod to UGA this week. UT and UF will have their chances to reshuffle that order starting this Saturday.

Georgia is #1 in the SEC East this week by default.

They are the only team in the division that didnt look like crap.

In addition, they have immediate obvious upside as their QB gets more playing time.

Chubb showed up and showed out, but it was late when he broke his last 55 yard TD run ... and was caught from behind. When was the last time you saw someone able to catch Chubb when he was free and wide open??? Chubb's a good back but UGA got a lot of help to win that game. Eason is probably their guy at QB but the UNC RBs regularly ripped off long runs against their D and IMO had the better rushing attack. Rushing game stats bear this out UNC total rushing yds 159 on 19 attempts = 8.4 yds per carry and UGA total rushing yds 289 on 52 attempts = 5.2 ypc. Considering this stat how'd you like to be a Tarheel fan this morning knowing how effective your running game was and you pretty much minimized it???

And by the way, those of you who thought any team in the East, including Tennessee, could compete with Alabama? You are on crack. A ton of it.

It remains the case that the East is way behind the West.

Florida fans should not crow or throw rocks.
Get Georgia while you can; Eason will be a star.
Vandy and the Cocks - move on, nothing to see here.
Mizzou - they could combine their offensive squad with Vandy and USCe and still would be subpar.
UK - Counting down to Midnight Madness

That said, for week 1: UGa, UT, UF, USCe, VU, UK, MU

Georgia's always an amazing team through the first 1-3 weeks of the year. Then they get exposed, either by getting blown out by a quality opponent or losing a close game to a mediocre one. They don't worry me.

The refs and an overzealous instant replay (an oxymoron now) crew helped Georgia pull this one out.

We held them to a season low 19 points in their own backyard with a less talented team last year. If you want to write off your season because of a subpar performance then go right ahead Nostradamus..

We've now become so accustomed to moral victories that we tout them while being cocky. Yay us!

Just like I said before the season, UGA will be the game that scares me the most. Not that they looked like world beaters or anything but they definitely have talent and they seem to know how to use that talent. After we beat down VA Tech this week we will be the favorites again. The defending East Champs didn't seem to learn how to play offense and their horrible play down the stretch from last season carried over into this season. They were only up by 3 points in the 4th to a 9 loss team a season ago. Just validates what everyone else was thinking about the East. It's TN, UGA and everyone else. The East is down right pathetic and if we don't take advantage this season idk when we will.

UT is the only team I think could do it with the depth/talent. Otherwise I wouldn't bet anyone else in the East could beat Bama given 10 tries.
