SEC replacement team

IF an SEC school left, who would yall like to see most to replace them?

Why not go for a real team like Texas or Texas A&M.

I'd even rather go out of the South than go for the picks in the thread.

Move on up the East Coast a little and invite Maryland.

One of the North Carolina teams would make a good fit.

Those who think teams like Texas or North Carolina are a stretch would probably be surprised at just who would show interest if there were expansion.

I'm really not joking. I have looked into most SEC schools on a number of college information services, I have literally heard that student life in Tuscaloosa is like taking a trip back to 1970.

It wouldn't be first on my list, but it's not THAT bad.

Now Stakville, Mississippi on the other hand . . .

How is VT overrated?  Did you see the game the gave Auburn and USC last year?  They now have marcus vick at qb and they are returining basically everyone.

If I remember correctly VT couldn't even score on Auburn until the 4th quarter. Further, Tech almost lost to Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, they did lose to an NC State team that I believe had a losing record, and while they did beat Miami and Virginia, they were hardly blowout wins. Tech can't go into a lot of games knowing that they will win, and next year they're playing at WVU, at NC State, at Virginia, and home games against BC, GT, and UNC at home. Each of those games they have a chance of losing, and though that isn't the toughest schedule in the world, it is by far the toughest Tech has ever had. All of the Tech fans that are once again saying "this is the year we win it all" (which they say every year), will have to wait yet another year.

Man, that's weak. VTech still won the ACC. That's exactly like saying the Vols are weak because we lost to Notre Dame and barely beat Kentucky and Vandy. We still won the Division. VTech still won the conference.

Yeah so basically If they are weak than we are weak also. At least they could hold auburn on defense. We couldnt do that and we got two shots at them.

To beat Auburn, we would have firstly needed to not look like fools with Jason Campbell passing all over us, and secondly, we would have needed a viable pass offense to put up enough points to win.

And even though the score was close, Virginia Tech never really stood a shot at beating Auburn; You could tell halfway through the first quarter of last season's game that neither team was really going to pull away, but VTech wouldn't be able to produce while Auburn was able to produce just enough points to win. We get closer to beating Auburn than Virginia Tech did.

I don't think Auburn played as well against VT as they did us.

I think they were just very flat mentally from being left out of the NC game.

I guess that was to be expected.

Probably. Cal looked the same way against Texas Tech, except the Red Raiders actually had a good offense unlike Virginia Tech.

Cal got screwed too.

It's another good reason to dislike Texas, not that I haven't had a lifetime of reasons, with my mother being from Texas. I've had to hear about the Horns all of my life.

But the 'Mack Brown crying for the masses' in order to get into the BCS was one of the lowest points in the 04 football season for me.

They played well enough to be there but they wouldn't have even been there had it not been for Mack's whining.

Or maybe it was the fact cal almost got beat by southern miss at the end of the year and texas was rolling over texas a&m. Personally I am happy that texas got into the bcs. That means we didnt have to play them. I am just hoping usc slips up so we get a shot at texas in the rose bowl this year (I know, wishful thinking).

Cal didn't almost get beat by Southern Miss. I saw that game. The score wasn't high but Southern Miss didn't even stand a chance. The Rose Bowl was Cal's game, period. I'm saying this in the interest of fairness, as I like Texas more than Cal. But Cal was the one that should have been there, and Mack Brown started lobbying to get in the game. The only thing Cal did wrong was not run the score up on Southern Miss, who, by the way, is actually a pretty good team.

I wouldn't consider Tesas' win over A&M much better than Cal's win over SM. They both ended up 7-5 and similarly ranked.

I just thought Mack's behavior was less than manly and very self-serving, seeing as how that big bonus kicks in when you go to a BCS game.

well dont put the blame on Mack, he wasnt the one doing the polls.

As much as I like Texas, I agree with you. That was Cal's game.

If you'd been raised in my shoes you wouldn't like them.

I was a teenager during the 68 season and we'd go there each summer. They beat us badly in the 69 Cotton Bowl and I had to eat that for 2 weeks of Vacationing there in East Texas. For weeks I heard "Hook em Horns" and the Eyes of Texas in my sleep.

I have hated them ever since.

I wish we could play them just for a chance to even our all-time record against them, which stands at 1/2.

I'm aware of the Texas vs. Tennessee record. I think it would be fun to watch just because it would be a great game to see.

I really think if all you guys have a big problem with who has the right to be the official "UT" (which is Texas, by the way, as we are designated Tenn), lobby to have a non-conference game against them at a neutral location with that title on the line. I'm serious. I think that would be sweet.

No way, first come, first served.

There was a University of Tennessee before there was a University of Texas. Also, there was a Tennessee before there was a Texas.

If it weren't for the first Volunteers, David Crockett, George Russell, Sam Houston and a few others, they'd still be calling it Mexico and they'd still be called Texicans.

Alright. For whatever reason, Texas still owns the official "UT". I am indifferent to who owns it because I think it is a completely trivial thing, but if you want it played for, write to the appropriate people and have the two teams play for the right.

No team whose logo looks like an ovarian diagram deserves the T.

Then I'd have to say Notre Dame.  :D

notre dame belongs in the big 10 imo. we should take a team like the team that left. if florida or tenn left, get a good team. if vandy left, choose a cupcake. we dont need to have 8 impossibly hard games. in the sec, we deserve a few cupcakes.

Notre Dame will never enter a conference... Although they would be the perfect fit for the Big Ten if they decide to expand and have a championship game.
