Would Butch survive this? I think he would, but shouldn't.

He would absolutely survive that.

This is just my opinion, but - A season removed from losing a record breaking QB (and replacing with one that is inexperienced), 8 or 9 wins coupled with this upcoming recruiting class and he should get a RAISE.

A little tv tip for you, my VFL brethren.
Sometimes these hosts are told to take different sides of an issue to argue on tv .
It's all theater.
But, as someone who lives in Georgia, I can tell you that in his heart that Matt Stinchcomb is a staunch Dawg lover who has no love for the Gators, Vols, or any of UGA's rivals.

Yep, TV is entertainment, no matter what program you're watching. Even the news. Even sports reporting. It's all theater. Got it.

But some of these talking heads are really terrible at hiding their affiliations. I mean, Turrible. Capital T and all. Danny Kannell (Gator) was one. Maria Taylor (Dawg) is another.

Even when they're arguing whatever corner they've been told to argue, it bleeds through. They can't help themselves, heh.

I didn't know Stinchcomb from Adam, just saw him once sitting beside Gator homer Kannell. Guess he became Gator-by-association in my head.

It's all good, they're just talking heads. :good!:

Of course he would and thats part of the problem. If we finish like GM said, with losses to UF, UGA, LSU and Bama, then that means we go 4-4 in SEC play. That also means in year 5 that will be zero wins against top 25 opponents and yet another 2 losses to SEC West teams. If that scenario plays out then that would be considered a step back.

All true. The other two components to this are (1) that while we've lost a lot of talent/production, we've still got a ton of talent to work with, and experienced talent at that. And (2), FL, GA, and LSU have plenty of question marks. AL is the only team who just keeps going as-is. We should absolutely not drop all four of the those games.

Isn't the dude on the right, who is predicting 6-6, a Florida homer? Can't recall his name, but pretty sure he is.

yeah! so I can't see a loss to both F and G...to me we at worst split these. But I can see both as wins! and that K team??? yea right

he would, and if that schedule plays out the way they have it there thru the MO game...that LSU game is HUGE for perception.

i'm actually surprised they all assume GT is a W w/no discussion required.

equally....i think it's just lazy to assume losses to FL and GA. i mean, would anyone really be shocked if we won 1 of those games?

I'm thinking 8-4/9-3 is this year's ceiling. If we have the same injury problem as last year, especially on defense, then it could be a fight to get to 6-6.

I understand people not happy with 8-4 with losses to UGA, UF, Bama, and LSU, but realistically who could UT hire that would make UT leap from an 8-4 program to a 10-2 program? Besides Saban, the SEC is weak in coaching. Actually the NCAA is weak in coaching besides the top 5-6 coaches.

If UT is 8-4 and Butch still has the momentum on the trail, you got to keep him. If you fire him at the end of the season, and the recruiting class bails, the cupboard will be fairly empty.

I agree on the GT game, especially if there are suspensions.

I also think we should win 1 of UGA, UF, and LSU. But I also could see us losing two to the other tier of SEC teams (UK, SCAR, Vandy, etc.) I mean it happened last year...

If we go 8-4/4-4 with losses to UF, UGA, Bama and LSU, a lot of people are going to believe that CBJ has taken the program as far as he can. When the team goal is to win the SECE, you can't continue to finish midpack.

some setting too high of expectations for this edition of the Vols. 7 win ceiling, IF they can beat Georgia Tech..

Alot of fans believe in year five you shouldn't be hoping for 8 win season. I have to agree.....

sometimes it takes longer to rebuild from the depths a program has fallen to. This is not the first time UT has had to rebuild from a low point.. 40 years ago had to go through same scenario... give it time.. changing coaches every 4-5 years won't get you there either..

Not sure why Kentucky stock is on the rise all the sudden. Butch definitely won't survive with a loss like that. Somebody else would be coaching after that Missouri loss.

The "Kentucky will be better" hype happens every year. That's one game I'm 100% confident in. We own Kentucky.

This is The Year everybody has been waiting for. CBJ's best recruiting classes are finally upperclassmen with three and four years in the program. We've had four good recruiting classes in a row and have talented players two-deep at every position. We're in the 5th year of The Process-- and CBJ himself said it would take five years to build the foundation and get the program to championship level.

So we're here. The wait is over. Year 5 is about to start. And people are already conceding that 8-4 or 7-5 is the best CBJ can do? UK and SCAR fans expect that and more-- and they don't have half the talent that UT has.

To be fair, if you add in 3 more spots on the recruiting calculation with the most likely three, TN will finish around 12th-15th, Butch's norm it seems.

But, 8-4 is a good year with new coaches, 2018 to be better.
