I was too young to know the announcers. Bill Dundee, Jimmy Hart, and Jerry Lawler were big time celebrities as far as I knew.

I thought they were just leaning way back in their chairs. I kept turning up the volume to hear what they were saying. Then, when something exciting happened, they sat up in their seats and would yell something like BOOM into the mic. With the volume up, they made me jump.

I guess that's a matter of opinion, but I mentioned in the game thread today how he often goes too far. In an effort not to seem biased, he ends up effectively rooting against us by fawning over the other team and downplaying our play/positives. Many people agreed with me.

I don't get that at all from him, he just calls it straight. Dane is about the best there is in the SEC, and Dave Neal does a decent job as well. The two clowns who did the Georgia game? Different story.

To be honest the bar is very low. Back in the stone age when they just had weekend broadcast and just 3 networks, doing 3 or 4 games. The bar was high and just the best of the best did the broadcast. Now we have numerous games on Tv within a 7 day period so you are going to hear some bad young announcers. To shine in this day and age shouldn't be as hard but they have to keep pushing ppl out there and culling the bad as they go.

That might be true overall, but there are still some great announcing teams out there at least as good as any in history, but there are also more bad ones now too
