SEC Coach of the Year?

If we had not filled the entire bed with poop against South Carolina it would have been Heupel, easy. With Kelly losing last night, it's going to be Kirby if he wins it next weekend and it's not undeserved. He lost 15 players to the NFL draft last year. Practically everyone on here was saying they'd take a step back in the preseason. They didn't, instead they went 12-0 again, first SEC team to put back to back 12-0 seasons together since 2008-09. Bama has a more talented roster than Georgia this year and Georgia was definitely better with us having played them both. I don't know when people are going to get it through their heads that Smart is a good coach. Most think they will go off the schedule every year when Texas and OU join and that will be a good thing.

Kirby should win it. Beamer’s last 2 wins were impressive, but he laid eggs against FL, Mizzou and Arky. I’d rank them:
1. Smart
2. Heupel
3. Kelly
4. Beamer

If not Kirby, it would go to Kelly. Then, wouldn’t be surprised to even see Beamer get it over Heupel. Beamer had the more recent big wins and the name that makes people assume he’s some great coach that does things right, etc.

I thought this too, especially back to back top 10 wins as an unranked team. But I think the fact he won last year, and also how poorly they played heading into last week and I don't think he gets it.
They had a team capable of doing that and looked like garbage most of the year. That doesn’t scream great coaching to me.

Could see Beamer getting it. Honestly we gave away a lot in that game. I could see him being extended then being fired in a few years. Beamer is fools gold imho.

Heupel imo deserves it more than anyone with where this team was to where it is in year two.

I think Heupel should win it! Look at what he did, with our mediocre team! If he gets smart, and, hires a defensive staff along with doubling up with defensive players (we really need at least 2 inter-changeable defensive teams), since our offense only keeps the ball for about 2 minutes -- Heupel could put us in position to win National Championship's very soon. I just hope he wises up and fixes the defense -- it was painful to watch this year! Heupel can't get complacent just because he has a great offensive mind. Remember -- Phil Fulmer got complacent because he was a good recruiter -- and, he thought he would ride things out, but, just being a good recruiter does not win ballgames in the SEC -- you have to be sound in all areas!

What CJH did this year is definitely coach of the year material.

Beamer came on strong late, but the rest of the season wasn't that great.

Smart is the obvious winner, especially if UGA blows out LSU, which isn't that unlikely.

Do you think Smart would have had a 10-2 record if he had been the coach at UT. If you can say yes then maybe Smart does deserve to be there, if your answer is no then you have to go with Heuple.

There is only one example in recent history of a coach winning SEC Coach of the Year the season after winning a National Championship. It happened in 2016 with Nick Saban, most likely because he was the only SEC coach that season with a squad that got to 10 wins. I have no doubts that Heupel will be this year's winner.

If it’s not Kirby it has to be Heupel. You have to look at the total body of work and Beamers isn’t close to Heupel’s. We were 10-2 moved up to number 1 and we have stayed in the top 10. Beamers bunch lost 4 games and struggled over half the year and finished strong on their last 2 games. Heupel is clearly over Beamer but the media wants him to succeed and they will probably push for Beamer. It’s all a popularity contest with them.

How many had a ceiling pick or 8 wins for Tennessee? If you did, then Heupel should win. Name every SEC team that exceeded expectations this year. Those are the coaching candidates that should be in the running for COA. If your team performed as expected do you really think that should win an award?

Should be Heupel with measuring where we have come in just 2 years. Kirby is likely to get it though with two back to back 12-0 reg seasons.

Georgia's talent wins in spite of Smart.
That talent is from his great recruiting. He also coaches and develops players very well as last year's 15 players to the NFL proves. Those were all his recruits. He lost a record number of players to the NFL and here he is undefeated this year. One hell of a coach and one hell of a recruiter. Heupel has done an excellent job this year and if not for Georgia being undefeated after losing all of those players to the draft I feel that he would be the coach of the year.

Not so fast. Kirby recruited the players that he has this year. Kirby one with the players that he recruited. Kirby lost 15 players in the NFL last year and still has put up an undefeated season. He has back to back undefeated regular seasons. I doubt Heupel would've gone to 12-0 with UGA's team because he doesn't know how to coach Defense. Defense still wins championships as you guys found out this year.

Not answering my question, I am aware that Kirby recruited the players he has. This is about coach of the year not recruiter of the year. I would assume it is based on the coaching job you did with the available talent you have. So again would Kirby went 10-2 with the Tennessee team?

Loaded roster for Kirby vs depleted roster for Josh in his second year, Josh wins, period……..

Not to mention their schedule was pretty much garbage compared to ours. We played and beat the two best teams in the West while they slept walked through most of the scrubs.

I think Hype gets SEC Coach of the Year hands down.

I love Heupel but look what Clark Lea done for Vandy 5-7 also beat Kentucky and Florida not to shabby
Oh please no way that’s coach of the year. Yes he did well but not at 5-7. If they are going to give it to a coach with a 5-7 record they need to quit giving it. Now if they had gone 7-5 I could see him being in the mix. GBO
