I am a top QB. I like the bluster of Kiffin, I like the city of Knoxville, I like knowing that Peyton Manning is still idolized more than a decade after he played. I think I am the next Manning.
I watched them some last year. The offensive line looked worse than the one I play behind in high school. The offense as a whole was so bad that it made me question what I could do there. I am not Michael Vick. I am a pro style passer. I need a good running game and I need some good WR, but most of all I need a solid OL.
Fast forward to September 21, 2009.
Tennessee looks pretty good. They are 2-1. Their offensive line looks astonishingly better. Bryce Brown and Oku look like they could for the next three seasons turn into another Lendale White, Reggie Bush, or Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown. When they lost to Florida, I saw Crompton miss some throws that I could make. I think I could have been a difference in that game. If that is all they need to get to the National Championship level...man...and Kiffin got guys in the NFL just like coach Sarkisian...in fact, my dad's idol Coach Carroll had Lane as the offensive coordinator over Coach Sarkisian while they were both at USC.
Washington is 1-2. While they beat the Idaho Vandals I think my high school team may have been able to handle them. Coach Sarkisian got absolutely destroyed by LSU, and that is the kind of defense I want to be able to pick apart. LSU also beat Washington by 7 touchdowns, and USC with all their future pros only won by 3. It is clear that the SEC is the best conference in the country.
Does TN end up with Joe Montana's son? Washington will suck and they will improve from 0-12 but not enough to not look awful compared to UT and its 8 wins.
At this time last year UF guys were mocking us with Nu'keese Richardson. Summer recruiting battles are weak.
We are in good shape with Prater from Illinois because in part we picked up his friend Fulton and that is great. Trooper Taylor is trying to get him to Auburn, but we are going to WHOOP them this year, and we are going to do it with a short receiving core. Prater will be able to see where a tall WR could star at UT like Pickens did, like Nash did, like K. Washington did. He can also think about (and our staff can point out) how amazing Peerless Price did with Eric Moulds at Buffallo and how hard it was for them apart. If you have a tall fast guy who can get the ball on jump routes and a smaller fast guy who can make a guy miss and go to the house, almost all the teams on your schedule cannot cover them both.
Losing Stripling hurts, I am surprised there has not been more of a commotion made about that. I wanted him after he dominated our camp.
What do you guys see as happening with the season playing out? Commits who are committed elsewhere who you think we can turn? Commits who you want the most still on the board? I think even if we get Montana, Stephens will start over him for a year but he will be an outstanding QB for us in the long term.
