Scrimmage 2 Notes (Spring 2026)

As I stated earlier, the best lawyer won in that decision.
In that, Aguilar has no one to blame but himself for not hiring Ryan Downton but rather hiring Cam Norris?

It's not like he didn't have access to try to hire Downton since Aguilar was previously in the Pavia Federal Case which Downton is still pursuing. He knew who he was and what he'd done for Pavia (and Joey A) last year but he chose to hire someone else. 🤷‍♂️

I heard Matthews was held out today.

On a side note, is there a player this fanbase hates more than Mike Matthews even though he’s a really good player? Bizarre.
Every single year, a few people in this fanbase find a new guy to hate. It is the weirdest "fan" behavior in the world.

That username and a few others will hyper focus on any miscues by Matthews throughout this season. Even if he playslike a phenom.

Everybody demands more money. At least our guys stay. You guys need to get over how you feel about NIL and stop directing that anger at specific players. It's a REALLY bad look. The way people have been trashing Jermod McCoy is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen this fanbase do. These kids don't owe you anything. They just represent your home university.
I never said anything bad about McCoy. He obviously made the right decision. Mathews on the other hand, simply isn't earning his money.

I am criticizing him for not earning what he is getting paid.
Is that a judgement we're qualified to make as fans? Do you KNOW what he's getting paid?

Some here don't even like that they get paid at all, so does that matter? Some here think all of them are overpaid, so does that matter?

What exactly are your qualifications at UT to say he's not earning what he's paid?

My qualifications are: I am a paying customer to the business he works for. He isn't delivery the results we all as fans pay for. Pretty simple.
I have no problem with kids getting paid, but with that, I expect results.

I hear you. But I don’t believe performance incentives are a huge part of NIL right now.

That’s why NICO rode the bench for 2 million in 2023.

You don't know how much he makes, nor do I, so your "he's not earning what he's paid" is hollow.

The people who DO pay him didn't encourage him to transfer so I suspect his actual "employer" is fine with what he's doing.

BTW, he's not your employee, nor the University of Tennessee's employee, nor anyone else's employee other than his NIL responsibilities.

We all know he is getting paid well. If not, he'd be playing somewhere else right now.

Ultimately, we the fans pay for everything. TV packages, tickets, merchandise, beer, hotdogs. Without the fans, there is no money.

As old guys, we were fans before they got paid because we like UT. We paid for the entertainment and atmosphere.

Now, it seems, you're paying for performance? If you feel "that player isn't earning his money" then you feel shortchanged or something?

Were you "shortchanged" previously before players were paid or were you there to be entertained? Did the players owe you something before?

I don't get why "not earning his pay" should bother you if you're a fan of UT?

No it wasn’t. Diego’s was for a 1 year waiver. That’s it. Joey got the same waiver. If Diego had been given more than that, Joey would have too. Laws aren’t applied to some individuals and not others.

Please understand the legal issues before complaining that they weren’t applied fairly.
You're asking a lot :) :) :) :)
Some of the posters in here appear to have an IQ of a ret@@d. This site is their safe haven for spewing pure sh*t anonymously

Because if a player is holding the team hostage (more so like Nico, with Matthews it didn’t reach that point) and said player hasn’t been worth the money, then we’re gonna call their bluff and say their full of ****. And with Matthews, if he’s making critical drops that change the game, then we’re gonna get more pissed, cause if they a bunch of money from our favorite school, they gotta play like it or else we should spend that money somewhere else

As I said, you were a fan before like me and now you've let yourself become a customer. Unlike when I was younger, I'm able now to donate to the Vol Club, but I'm not a customer, I'm still just a fan.

IMO, those who let this era turn them into business customers (your words) instead of remaining as fans of the school are creating their own sadness.

I'm not a fan of what college athletics is headed toward even though I understand it legally and realize UT and the state of TN are waist deep in the lawsuits that have given us uncontrolled NIL and wholesale transfers.

My team supported this all the way. I support my team.

He stayed cause we gave him more money, he was gonna leave
He flirted with the portal because he didn't get any reps despite being better than Nimrod and the other cast of pedestrian WRs we had that year. It worked out and I'm glad it did. He'll be more talented than the past 1k WRs in Huepel's tenure. 6'1 200+, 4.4 speed and 40 inch vert. Blocks like Jauan Jennings on the perimeter and looks to truck a safety on the sideline instead of stepping out of bounds like most WRs. Mike is a stud, can't name five WRs in CFB I'd trade for him right now.

Before legally paying players. the argument was, don't boo or call out amateur kids. That all changes once the money gets flowing.
Before, you might say, well he is the best we have, gotta recruit better. Now the argument, if he is not playing at a high level, we should drop him and get someone who will.

Jay Bilas was talking on college 🏀 game day that college sports is no longer amateurism, with the 💰 coming in.

But there has to be an emotionally intelligent component that says just because a kid drops a pass or misses a kick, doesn’t mean he should be ostracized because he’s paid.

Discernment is key. I’m not saying athletes should be without accountability but some people take it way too far and go on social media and in these kids DM’s to bash them unnecessarily.

And I’m not accusing anyone at VN for doing that. But athletes read message boards and social media. They see the negative 💩 said about them. I just wish people put themselves in these kids shoes because there’s a ton of pressure now, especially now that gambling is so rampant.

I agree with the part about people going overboard. No reason for that, but if any kid of any sport reads crap on this site, that's on them. Their parents and or mentors should be telling them as much.

I hear you. But we’re accustomed to being on our 📱 an endless amount and it’s hard for young people to not look when information is everywhere around us.

I definitely agree about it the mentorship part but it’s even something professional athletes that struggle with scrolling on their phones and reading about themselves online.

Need to hear what GMac did also.
Need more info on these WR drops. Where they from freshmen and walk on's or are we talking about Matthews/Stanley and if they were catchable.
If it was the upperclassmen and catchable balls, I'm not liking that
I've taken the stance that it doesn't really matter who wins the job. Both are green and facing a brutal schedule. This team will revert back to the Nico era.

With our OL, we'll rely on our running game and defense next year. Just hope we have superb special teams this year. Gotta find a great punter and kicker... especially the kicker. Every point will be important if not critical.

Qualifications are registration with Vol Nation.
