Scott Frost or Dan Mullen??

Look at the period before he was coach. That program took a step back after Kelly left. Butch took over an 11 win team and went 4-8 his first year. Mullen has literally taken MSU to new heights and levels that MSU has never done.

Name one thing Butch did at Cincy that was never done prior to his arrival.

He didn’t take them to a BCS Bowl
He didn’t win a conference title
He didn’t set a wins record in his tenure there
He didn’t get them to their highest ranking

Butch did NOT over achieve at Cincy. Keep trying though.

You keep changing your definition of goodness. I used the same metrics that you have provided as evidence of Mullen's success.

Some people cited Mullen as being their choice because he has SEC experience.

I was one of them. But you are just trying to create useless drama by referencing a coach thats not even mentioned in the thread. Those who dont think what Mullen has done at MSU isnt great, obviously know very little about MSU football.

I don't think it matters who we hire. Between Georgia and Florida, the east is going to be tough to win consistently going forward. This is big year for the east, especially if Chip or Frost get hired. Mullen will be average with that competition. Then there's Bama.

No you didn’t. For the record, what metrics do you think I’m using.

You have literally tried every way to compare Butch to Mullen as equals, including their respective programs as equals.

Keep trying bud.

What Coach out there shows they could lead us to a SEC title with Saban still running at Bama?

Not being sarcastic but want your opinion.

At the end of the day, you have to compare Mullen to Butch because Butch is what we just got rid of.

Butch- Easier Schedule / More Talent = Underachiever at historical winning program

Mullen- Tougher Schedule / Less Talent = Overachieving at historical loser program

So history tells us that Mullen, with an easier schedule and better talent, would succeed here better than Butch, who we just canned. 8-4 would be Mullen’s Floor here.

Mullen would be very likely to be the favorite in 10 of 12 games at Tennessee. He’s lucky to be the favorite in 4 or 5 games at State.

I think Mullen would be an upgrade over Butch.

But playing in the SEC, just because he'd be an upgrade doesn't mean we'd be where we want to. Honestly saying he's an upgrade over Butch isn't saying that much. We're in position to go winless in the SEC this year. I guess I just don't think he'd be as proven as others make him out to be. And he makes almost 5 million a year at Miss St. Is Tennessee going to pay over 5 mill a year for a coach that is 2-16 against ranked opponents?

As far as Saban goes, I don't know if there's any coach out there that would be a favorite over Saban in the SEC Championship. It's a unique situation and we may not see another coach with his success for decades.

And we play them every year as our permanent West opponent. That's a disadvantage that UGA and Florida don't have. Which is part of the reason we need to make the best hire possible.

If a homerun hire means hiring someone who is 32–38 in the SEC, I can see why many fans will stay checked-out.

His record against ranked teams is under .150; I don't think that's a homerun hire. I believe that Fuente probably had a better SEC record and better record against ranked teams when he was at Memphis... and he did it with much, much worse recruiting classes.

Mullen. Yawn.

There is certainly the chance that Mullen at a place like UT could be a huge hire too.

Yea I think both could possibly win big at UT. Mullen could / most likely would win more than at MSU.

I don't think anyone expects Mullen to suddenly become the next Saban......and that is not a knock on Mullen.

However many people in football do think Frost will be the next Tom Osborne.

Mullen has done good for MSU standards but he has had opportunities to take them from mediocre to a powerhouse. 2012 7-0 going into the Bama game. they finished 8-4. 2014 they started 9-0 going into that Bama game. If you remember they blew that game losing 20-25 in Tuscalooser. They finished 10-2. Lost to ole miss in a game they should have won too. He reminds me of Tommy Tuberville. Let UF take him.

Mullen not on the table. Said people always thinking he’s looking for another job. Said he loved it where he is and is happy in Starkville.

Im sure people yawned at James Franklin’s Vandy record too.

If these two guys are in our actual, and not fantasy pool...if we can get them to campus, I'm good with either.

I don't remember saying that. He's just Jackie Sherrill v2 in that they both had one good season surrounded by a long list of mediocre seasons.

Jackie Sherrill needed 152 games in 13 seasons to get to 75 wins.

Mullen is likely going to do it in 10 seasons (if he stays for 2018) in 28-30 less games.....

But please tell me how Mullen and Sherrill are so similar.

We will probably end up with a guy like Brohm, Norvell, or Campbell when the dust settles.

Meanwhile Florida will hit a grand slam and Frost will waste away in Nebraska.

IMHO, Frost may not want to go "home".....hard to recruit to Nebraska these days.....and Norvell is a damn good coach. We could do worse. He may end up at Arkansas with his wife's family there.
