Schiano denies knowledge of Sandusky

"Schiano denied any knowledge of abuse in an official statement on Tuesday: 'I never saw abuse, nor had reason to suspect any abuse, during my time at Penn State,' he said in a statement released by ESPN's Adam Schefter on Twitter."

Now, can we stop the negative rumors? I am not sold on him, but the anti-rumors are largely unfounded.

This is not new. He has always said that and someone else says he did. It is a "he said" verses "he said" - always has been.

I will be willing to bet that the majority of people on this forum won't want whoever is hired. I would also be willing to bet that the ones who do want him, will want rid of him after 2 years.

Disagree completely. A majority (meaning 51%) would take Gruden, Petersen, Frost, or Mullen. Probably Leach too.

None of us know. That's why we can't risk it after the title 9 debacle. I have no interest in condemning or defending him. But, as things stand, the university can't afford to be associated with him. Most of the allegations in the title 9 suite where decades old. We can't afford to allow that perception of the program to persist. Hiring him will come back to bite us, probably sooner than later.

Agree - the perception is there - if he is hired, the first time a player gets in trouble - this will be used against the university in the press. Bad hire - it really is - has nothing to do with coaching.

Why in the bloody hell would you even consider splitting hairs like that in the first damn place!!

Convicted of multiple counts of SEX WITH A MINOR. Who the hell cares how old the kids were!!!
That isn't what I am talking about. From Schiano's standpoint, it makes a difference if there was a 10 year old in the shower trying to fight off the sexual advances of Schiano's boss, or if it was a 17 year old seemingly enjoying it , seen from 40 feet away through the steam in a locker room shower.

Maybe all that he saw was 2 males in the shower, and he was shocked, and told another coach what he saw. For God's sake, I'm not taking up for Sandusky. I just can't say for sure what Schiano saw or reported. Maybe Sandusky had sex with boys from 8 to 17, I don't know.

I'm sorry, as a pediatric nurse who works with special needs kids who can't talk. I just think there's something more important than football. From the stories there's no way he wouldn't have no known what was going on.

And having to help few innocent kids in the ER before when they had been sexually abusued, has probably jilted me moreso. So my opinion is more from a jilted aspect.

Well, in all fairness, you as a nurse have been trained to recognize certain behaviors that causes the red flag to wave for you. I doubt very many coaches were at those seminars and CEU classes. Maybe you and others in your line of work need to enlighten the world. If you can save one kid from this Hell, it's worth it.

My problem with Schiano is not, "he must have known" because I assume it was common knowledge. Another member of that coaching staff indicates he actually witnessed it and did nothing. Somebody is lying, and if Schiano isn't the liar, why isn't he clearing his name and taking legal action to force the other guy who saw and did nothing to recant? My natural assumption is he isn't lying about Schiano or Schiano's big fan on here would have pointed it out already. So, until he clears that up, Schiano can walk somebody else's sideline.

Once again a lot of you are painting a picture in your mind of what he saw based on knowledge of the result.

Even if true Schiano could have seen something disturbing that wasn't necessarily sexual. And did report it.

Or it could have been another coach the guy recalling a passing encounter saw.
This has to be a troll job and an epic one at that. No reasonable person with a brain and soul could possibly think like you. We as Vol fans and human beings do not want ANYONE that was within 50 miles of that situation anywhere near our program.

Given the subject. Detailing the various possible details of what Sandusky did, probably won't help your argument.

If you are referring to me as "Schiano's big fan on here," I don't care whether they hire him or not. My only contention is that it is unfair to brand a man based on what he saw and did, because none of us know for sure what he saw, or if he saw.

The point is that you don't know what Schiano saw or thought he saw, and I don't either. Therefore, I am not going to automatically hate the man if I don't know any more than I do. I will leave that for the people that were there, like you.

Lol, I've said several times I have no idea what happened. I've also said I have no interest in condemning or defending Schiano. Why is his word better than mine?

Lol so if you saw an old man in the shower with a teenager you wouldn't say anything?

I don't know what happened, therefore I'm not going to judge the man. I also don't care who is hired. I have a feeling it won't make enough of a difference. The last 10 years have been like a nightmare that you can't wake up from. I am afraid we have become Nebraska.

He did say something to another coach according to some accounts.

What I would do would depend on what I thought I saw. My guess is that I be grossed out if I saw 2 males of any age in the shower, and would get the hell out of there as quickly as I could. I don't believe that I would look close enough to see how old the people were. Again, the points are :

1) We don't know for sure if he saw anything.

2) If he did see anything we don't know how far away he was, and if there was steam in the shower, or if his view was obstructed by Sandusky or something else.

3) If he did see anything, we don't know if he could see if the person was underage.

4) He may have been so shocked that he immediately turned his head.

I haven't judged him. I simply made comment on how his employment at Penn State at the time would affect Tennessee.

For the record, I care a great deal about who is hired, because I want the nightmare to end. If you feel things are that hopeless, maybe it's time to find a new team, or pick a new hobby.

I'm not trying to take your "your fan card" or anything. I just don't get picking this hill to die on.

Someone said if the kid was 17 and seemed to enjoy it maybe they would just let it go.

I attended to my first U.T. game in person 60 years ago, at the 1957 Gator Bowl. I think that I will stick with them, but it does feel almost hopeless at the moment.

As far as the hill to die on, I'm just trying to offer possibilities as to why Schiano shouldn't be condemned due to lack of solid facts. I don't think we know enough.

I'm the one who said maybe the kid was 17 and enjoying it. I doubt if you would ask to card a naked 17 year old in the shower with your boss if you were Schiano. It has been reported that Sandusky's victims were between 8 and 17.

My point was that if the person was 17, and Schiano didn't card him or get a good look, that he just got the heck out of there. I didn't say that anybody should "just let it go." If, on the other hand, it was an 8 year old and he knew it, he should have stepped in. I don't know how old this victim was, do you?
