and some bad things…..

- The defense played very well. When we tackled, their backs and receivers went backwards. Our D-line controlled the line of scrimmage. Numerous tackles at the line of scrimmage and in the backfield. The linebackers and secondary were superlative with several pass breakups and physical tackling.

- The run game surprised me. It was very good. Give credit to the run game scheme. The offensive line was dominant, consistently opening holes the entire evening. We had two backs who ran for over 100 yds!

- The kicking game was solid. Kudos!

- The receivers were so-so. One specific receiver needs to get with it. He dropped balls in practice as well.

- Quarterback.. I was VERY disappointed in what I saw last night. I’ve never seen a UT quarterback continually stand in the pocket for 6 seconds like a statue, staring down a receiver, and then miss the throw….(Kudos to the OLine for giving that amount of time). Milton regressed during the game.

- When Pitt and SEC schools come to town, Milton will be on his butt a lot. He’s not a gamer. He’s not an efficient passer. He‘s not an accurate passer on deep balls. (Several misses) He’s an average runner at best. He has a very bad habit of holding the ball at his waist, and it bit him last night when he fumbled. His touchdown throw was lucky. Tillman had to make a great play to catch a pass that was covered.

- I kept thinking back on Bailey’s performance in the spring game and wished he had at least gotten to play some.

I was dissappointed to not see bailey in the 4th, or at least a platoon of Bailey and hooker. It would have been interesting to see what Bailey would do with the same opportunities. There were a LOT of throws where I caught myself wishing the QB just had better touch.

I assumed he wanted to get Milton all the reps he could, but then he put in Hooker anyway.

I agree with all your points haha

Running backs are very impressive. D Line looked great, we are a lot bigger than I thought we would be on the line.

There were plenty of open receivers out there to throw to on multiple plays. Even the announcers brought it up. Milton seemed to just want to show off his arm talent and go for the deep ball every time.

I feel Bailey would have completed a lot more passes and we would have scored more points overall..

I'm afraid that the coaches feel more comfortable with Milton and his ability to make his own play if things go wrong. All that talk about accuracy and consistency throughout fall practice, was not on display for Milton last night. But it's still his first game and he will hopefully grow from this. His arm talent is off the charts for sure though.

Most HCs coach their #1 QB through adversity at the beginning of a season. Maybe that is the right thing to do with Milton. But if it isn't, we're SOL.

I know it’s a low bar, but let’s do some comparing to last year, (we are after all looking at improving the program).
I didn’t see 12 men on the field (well, I did, but it was BG)
I think I only saw one dead ball foul. A huge improvement from last year. Those were killers last year.
No players were seen trying to ask “where should I be”. Except once, and they called a TO.
No dry erase boards were injured during this game.
Bringing this program to relevance is a multi year effort. We won. Let’s go from there.
