Sane Vol Fan Roll Call

Michigan's struggled forever to get the 'right coach'. They just happened to have a former player that's a great coach willing to come home. I don't believe we have that scenario.
Jim Bob Cooter!

Yeah, we should have just kept Dooley right?

I supported and tried to defend Dooley until the Troy game. However, I was tired of him entertaining the local press with his stupid War stories and such. And I found it disturbing how the best players in the state were going elsewhere. And when he was fired, I knew it was overdue, but I never called for him being fired. I knew it was futile for me to call for it because it would be noise that would, if anything, just cause those who made decisions to harden their resolve and resist making a change. And it is just be something the players and recruits have to shut out.

If Butch is the lame duck snake oil salesman you all think he is, then he will be gone as soon as those in a position to have him fired ante up. Not before.

Excellent points made, there is a lot of wisdom here.

Thanks, but let's just say I've been around for a long time, and fortunately got a start in an era when it wasn't all a matter of "what have you done for me lately". But what I'd love to see most in UT football is an undefeated season when we haven't even allowed a point to be scored - I can dream anyway.

I despise those little commie elves. Their baked goods are just a smoke screen to mask their evil crimson agenda. Saban and Finebaum are both Keebler Elves.

Then I must commend the little red b*****ds on their Pecan Sandies and Fudge Stripes.

cuz yummmmm :loco:

I agree with OP. Especially with 1&2. You're living a ****ing pipe dream if you think any school is paying a guy $20m NOT to coach

No offense but you're dead wrong on the Jimmys and Joes comment. The read option was originally run by smaller schools to even out the playing field with the bigger schools. Its essentially what you see when Navy plays Notre Dame except they run the traditional option. So there in return it is indeed all about the Xs and Os in the system butch runs. A better example might be Chip Kellys teams at Oregon, the man Jones mirrored his offense after. Kelly never really had stellar recruiting classes at UO. In fact his best year he finished ranked 13.

2011 Football Team Rankings

Kelly was however an offensive genius and was able to develop players in his offensive system. Butch has had a problem developing players on the offensive side of the ball. Time will tell if he improves, I also wonder if the pressure of SEC recruiting is causing him to recruit outside of his system to appease the fan base with flashy stars.

Go Vols beat tech

I'll go with the Jimmys and Joe's. Was Kiffin a super play caller at Tennessee? Hell no. Was he at USC? Obviously not, his ass was fired on the tarmac. But at Bama, he's playcaller Supreme.

Jeremy Pruitt. He sucked at Ga. super DC at Bama.

Kirby Smart. Great at Bama, defense can't stop anyone at Ga.

It's Jimmys and Joe's boys.

Now this man understands. It ain't hard to go fast if you're driving a Ferrari.

I think what we need to understand is that Bama could not take a recruiting class for the next 4 years and it would still take us 6 years to beat them... maybe i am one of the insane ones...

How terrible they are is very stable.

If Butch is a championship coach, how did he lose to Muschamp with a true freshman QB?

Phillip Fulmer lost to Wyoming and Memphis and he's in the CFB Hall of Fame. Johnny Majors lost to Rutgers, same destination. So please tell me you have more substance behind your argument than the SC loss. This is a TREND with Vol Nation "Fire ______ NOW" newbies. We heard it after A&M when we had 6 turnovers and still almost won! And by the way, "coaching" isn't just during a football game -- its on the practice field, in the office, in the film room, during bed-checks on the road, outside a classroom....the list goes on and on. I doubt you'll find another coach that "outcoaches" Butch Jones if you factor in those non-Saturday teaching moments.

I'm sane.

Heck I became a giant football fan DURING the Kiffin/Dooley debacle. People can call me an optimist but I don't bash my team or my coach over a loss. In fact, I shut up and support my coach/team no matter what. Even Dooley, I wanted him gone but I didn't go online and say it because I recognize the team and recruits see this stuff.

If you can't say anything good about the team, just leave. That's my motto.

Oh, now I have it. Players win games and coaches lose them. Coaches throw interceptions, miss blocks, fumble, miss tackles, Hell they even injure their own players.....

SIAP but does sane fan include people who love the Vols and the University but understand that college football is entertainment for us fans and in the grand scheme of life there are other more important things like family, career, and health. I still visit this site daily and and don't miss a game, but there are other things more important than 18-22 year olds throwing a football.

I keep telling myself and my son this same thing before every season starts for all Tennessee Vol sports. I am very passionate about Tennessee as many other fans are. Whatever the outcome is on the field or court is beyond my control. I admit that I am addicted to Tennessee sports. As I get older at the age of 66 I am beginning to see the light and realize life goes on but my love for the Vols will only die when I do.
