:clapping:This is the most common sense article that has been posed on the Volunteer football status situation. As a true Vol fan, thanks for taking the time and effort to post it. The so called "Vol fans and football experts" need to shut up and start supporting the program with the same effort they offer to its detriment. Amen! Amen! and one more Amen. Thanks.
I think this roll call may need to be a regular and reoccurring event. I don't think that this thread will be a refuge of coherency and sanity but it will clearly delineate and define the insane and sane Vol fans.
1) Butch cannot and won’t be fired –
a. Economically this is not remotely feasible
b. He has made major improvements to the program
c. Just a year ago the same idiots who wanted him fired were afraid he was off to Michigan
d. Many teams run the same style “garbage” offense that Butch prefers (in fact Saban Almighty switched to something like it from a pro style)
e. Many of the coaches that the deranged Vol fans put forth as Butch’s replacement run similar offenses.
2) Notice that the Vols’ woes coincide with a rash of injuries that no team (not even Bamer) could weather-
a. It is easier to name the players from the original starting 22 who have not been out for injury
b. The number of injuries does not begin tell the whole story… with the exception of Barnett and Dobbs, every impact player has been injured, many for the season
c. In reality we are now playing with more inexperienced players that at any other time in the Butch Jones Era
d. It’s more about the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s than the X’s and the O’s
3) Jalen Hurd is not the Devil (Saban is) and Butch is not running off all our players-
a. Jalen is a typical Millennial brat who cannot be told that he is not the most important thing in the universe
b. Jalen will look back and wish he did things differently
c. Butch if nothing else is dedicated to the Vols and preaches and demonstrates loyalty to the team, his players, staff and UT in general
d. Butch’s approach and attitude is going to repel selfish, weak character individuals who put themselves ahead of the team
e. It is a good thing when elements that are contrary to the team leave, it is healthy
4) Finally, usually the Vols get destroyed in the gauntlet of late Sept – Oct. and eat up the cookies in Nov. This season we did admirably in the gauntlet and dropped the first cookie, I think that is an easier fix and we are in much better shape than we have been in a while.

Let the Roll Call begin:

I'll agree with you and stand by you with this. Butch jones does not deserve to be fired. However, offensively, there will have to be a change in the off season.. We may wind up in the same boat if we don't.

vandy has had 3 different coaches since 2009 between 1977 and 2009 6 , stability I think not

How terrible they are is very stable.

If Butch is a championship coach, how did he lose to Muschamp with a true freshman QB?

All is well.

Championship teams don't lose to frosh QB's just out of high school

Not sure I heard anyone say we would win a championship this year besides D4H.
And I love how you negavols want to say a freshmen QB shouldn't beat us. We had alot of starters still out to injury and we had our 5*RB telling the coaches and team no I'm not hurt, I'm just not going back in.

Not sure we would have beat Carson Newman kast weekend with your star player distracting the team that way.

I root for the Vols...always have, always will...when I can hire and fire at UT maybe I'll have a stronger opinion about Butch...right now, I'm trying to keep this team together and win ball games...is that sane...you be the judge...:)

GO VOLS...RUN THE TABLE!

Jones hasn't outcoached anyone to this point in his tenure.

Two years ago, 28 points against Iowa in a quarter and half with no 3rd downs wasn't coaching?

Last year, largest margin of victory in a bowl game in school history had nothing to do with coaching either?

No offense but you're dead wrong on the Jimmys and Joes comment. The read option was originally run by smaller schools to even out the playing field with the bigger schools. Its essentially what you see when Navy plays Notre Dame except they run the traditional option. So there in return it is indeed all about the Xs and Os in the system butch runs. A better example might be Chip Kellys teams at Oregon, the man Jones mirrored his offense after. Kelly never really had stellar recruiting classes at UO. In fact his best year he finished ranked 13.

2011 Football Team Rankings

Kelly was however an offensive genius and was able to develop players in his offensive system. Butch has had a problem developing players on the offensive side of the ball. Time will tell if he improves, I also wonder if the pressure of SEC recruiting is causing him to recruit outside of his system to appease the fan base with flashy stars.

Go Vols beat tech

SIAP but does sane fan include people who love the Vols and the University but understand that college football is entertainment for us fans and in the grand scheme of life there are other more important things like family, career, and health. I still visit this site daily and and don't miss a game, but there are other things more important than 18-22 year olds throwing a football.

Am good with most of list except that some of us fans being "idiots" has direct correlation between what we're seeing on the field and our opinions. Young players playing doesn't hold water on turnovers and penalties...we were younger for the past three years, and these were strengths. Was at SC game, and didn't pass they "eye test" for gameplan...conservative until it's urgency time. Urgency time needs to start on first possession. Guess will find out soon enough

There is a difference in young players who were going to have to be the starters and were prepared to be the starters and young guys who were never on the field (much less starters) until they had to fill in because of injuries. Those first young guys were the best players on the team. The second young guys you talk about may become starters or possibly a guy who spells a starter, but that's not where they were when forced into a starting role.

SC was a bad game - pretty much every team has them from time to time; that one went the other way period. It is disturbing how so many games have started so poorly - like disaster has just been waiting to happen - and it did at SC. Two of our losses (for a second year) are to two teams currently in the top 4 in the CFP, but we weren't expected to be at that level yet - too bad we played two teams who apparently are. I guess that gets back to how optimistic/pessimistic one is - we aren't there yet or we can't get there because it's been four whole years with this coach.

Probably the worst thing about this season was the schedule, and nobody on the TN coaching staff or team could do a thing about that except muddle through the best they could with a team that for whatever reason balked at the starting gate every time. The odds of getting through that stretch intact (1st and likely 2nd best SECw teams) with no schedule breaks was too slim to imagine, but people here did and were disappointed.

Even with the bye week, SC was a dangerous game - too many casualties from prior weeks, and possibly dissension within the team. There were signs on the sidelines when the TV cameras were pointed that way - no spark - no camaraderie; we'll see in the next week or two whether that's solved or not - morale and discipline are highly related.

My freshman year at UT was '64, I've seen a lot of UT football with several different coaches. Doug Dickey was my favorite UT coach - maybe because he built the team from nothing when I was more impressionable; it always seemed like no matter what happened the prior week, there was hope and confidence for the next game. Funny thing; he left for his alma mater and never accomplished anything near that at FL - no next pending coach is ever a sure thing. And every TN coach including Dickey and probably Neyland has had a SC game; it just happens.

I despise those little commie elves. Their baked goods are just a smoke screen to mask their evil crimson agenda. Saban and Finebaum are both Keebler Elves.
