Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell said during a Friday press conference that he was “puzzled” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s decision to designate Nashville a sanctuary city, claiming that the Metro government had worked to comply with a Tennessee law banning such cities in the Volunteer State.

The mayor also told reporters he is not worried about the congressional probe unveiled by U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) on Friday, which seeks information from the mayor and Metro Nashville over his actions in response to recent federal immigration enforcement in Tennessee, including O’Connell’s executive order mandating Metro employees report interactions with federal immigration officials, and the new “Belonging Fund” for illegal immigrants which received seed funding from nonprofits awarded Biden-era stimulus money by Nashville.

The mayor was also questioned about the fund, which O’Connell had announced as a joint effort between Nashville and the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT).

“Yeah, the Belonging Fund was set up really in response to the findings of Imagine Nashville, which found that our local immigrant population, in fact, had one of the strongest senses of belonging,” said O’Connell.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell did not respond to multiple press inquiries from The Tennessee Star after Metro Nashville was accused of publicly leaking the names of U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Homeland Security Investigations officials who participated in the recent immigration enforcement operation that resulted in nearly 200 arrests of illegal immigrants.

O’Connell was accused of leaking the names on Wednesday by U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05), who noted that Metro Nashville published names of DHS and HSI officials to a Nashville data portal affiliated with the Metro Office of New Americans.

Nashville and Shelby County Identified by DHS as ‘Sanctuary Jurisdictions’ for Protecting Illegal Aliens

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified Nashville and Shelby County as Tennessee’s only “sanctuary jurisdictions” actively obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws.

On Thursday, DHS published a list identifying all sanctuary jurisdictions in the U.S. that are “deliberately and shamefully obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws endangering American communities” as mandated by President Donald Trump’s executive order titled, “Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens.”

Each sanctuary jurisdiction identified by DHS was determined by factors including “compliance with federal law enforcement, information restrictions, and legal protections for illegal aliens,” according to the department.

Tennessee State Senator Brent Taylor (R-Memphis) called Shelby County’s noncompliance with federal immigration laws “completely unacceptable.”

Democrat Councilwoman BLOCKS arrest of Migrant who beat up her pregnant daughter

Police bodycam footage captured the chaotic moment a Massachusetts councilwoman attempted to block the arrest of a migrant who allegedly beat up her pregnant daughter.

The intense encounter took place on May 8 in Worcester - about 50 minutes outside of Boston - when ICE agents confronted a crowd of about 25 'unruly' activists as they tried to arrest Rosane Ferreira de Oliveira.

De Oliveira, a 40-year-old Brazilian national, entered the US illegally in August 2022.

While agents attempted to apprehend de Oliveira, who is accused of assaulting her pregnant 16-year-old daughter, Democrat City Councilor Etel Haxhiaj was seen grabbing ICE officers and shouting at them to 'get out of our neighborhood.'

Following the dramatic incident, authorities said Haxhiaj 'incited aggression towards the police' and 'eventually assaulted both Worcester police and federal law enforcement officers on scene.'

Exclusive — Sen. Marsha Blackburn: Nashville Mayor Has ‘Sided with Criminal Illegal Aliens’

Nashville’s Democrat mayor has “sided with criminal illegal aliens,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said during an appearance on Breitbart News Daily, reminding the American people that some of these people are pedophiles and child rapists.

“He has sided with criminal illegal aliens over law-abiding citizens and residents of Nashville, Tennessee,” Blackburn began, discussing the actions of Mayor Freddie O’Connell.

“Secondly, he has doxed the names and operations of Homeland Security agents and ICE agents. That has endangered those agents and those operations. And by doing this, he is creating a de facto sanctuary city, which is illegal in the state of Tennessee,” she said, explaining that this is why she has asked the Department of Justice to examine his actions.

'MS-13 Gang Member' wearing Celtics shirt is Nabbed after making stupid mistake while driving

An undocumented migrant and suspected member of the notorious MS-13 gang has been arrested in Massachusetts after being pulled over for allegedly using his cell phone while driving.

William Alberto Villalobos-Melendez, a 24-year-old Salvadoran national who US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) say has 'verified connections' to the violent group, was apprehended in Brockton last month after a traffic stop in Middleboro, according to a statement released on Monday.

'William Alberto Villalobos-Melendez has been illegally residing in the United States for almost nine years,' said Patricia H Hyde, ICE ERO Boston acting Field Office Director.

'He is a validated member of a violent transnational street gang and poses a threat to our Massachusetts residents,' she added.

In March state police pulled over the 24-year-old man and charged him with operating a motor vehicle without a license and using an electronic device while driving, according to the agency.

A day later he was arrested during a coordinated operation led by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston with support from ICE Homeland Security Investigations New England and the FBI's Boston division.

Mayor Adams slams NYC Council push to probe NYPD over alleged Sanctuary City Violations

Mayor Eric Adams hit back Wednesday at City Council members’ push to probe the NYPD over alleged violations of the city’s sanctuary city laws — saying they should instead be focused on “those who commit serious crimes.”

This week, mayoral candidate Speaker Adrienne Adams and Oversight Chair Gale Brewer sent a letter to the city Department of Investigation accusing the NYPD of handing over information to the feds that’s being used in civil immigration proceedings.

A gang of illegal migrants running amok in Queens’ “Market of Sweethearts’’ — extorting brothels, beating rivals and selling drugs and phony IDs to finance an illicit network based in El Salvador — has been busted.

Eight members of the notorious “18th Street Gang” were named in a federal indictment unsealed Monday — part of a criminal roundup that put a dent in the seedy migrant prostitution operation along Roosevelt Avenue that has plagued the Big Apple for years, according to prosecutors in bombshell court papers.

NYC Inks $1B No-Bid Shelter Contract With Hotels to House 86K Immigrants and homeless — despite claims migrant crisis is easing

The Adams administration has inked a nearly $1 billion no-bid contract with the hotel industry for emergency shelter space — despite boasting that the migrant crisis is tapering off, The Post has learned.

Taxpayers are on the hook for the $929.1 million reupped with the Hotel Association of New York City Foundation as the total city population still includes a whopping 86,000 people, including homeless individuals and asylum seekers.

1750382457621.png
The reupped contract took effect in January and runs through June 30, 2026. It was awarded via “negotiated acquisition” – meaning it was not put out for competitive bids. The initial contract was negotiated through the end of 2025, as previously reported by The Post.
